The Tahoe Chamber’s GO Local & Win Holiday Contest rewarded residents for spending locally during the holiday season in a time when small businesses needed it most. Kicking off in late November for Small Business Saturday, the holiday contest recorded $39,134 in spending at local restaurants and retailers through January 1st, a 291 percent increase from the 2019 contest.

Join us for two days of one of a kind holiday shopping by local and regional artists and artisans in a magical historical landmark building. This festive event is a great way to support artists and makers while enjoying the holiday spirit and the Comstock. Convenient parking and shuttle buses around Virginia City available.

The Juvenile Services Council (JSC) is holding their second annual Holiday Shopping Fair on Saturday, November 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in South Lake Tahoe.

Featured will be a variety of unique gifts from local crafters, artisans and other creative people.

Get a jump on holiday shopping at the Juvenile Service Council (JSC) Holiday Shopping Fair on Saturday, November 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Paint and Sip.

There will be a variety of unique items from crafters and artisans, as well as refreshments. The Knights of Columbus will be providing free coffee and munchies, and beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

The JSC would like to thank Dawnda Smith for donating the business for the event.

Lake Tahoe Paint and Sip is located at 900 Ski Run Blvd., South Lake Tahoe (near the Riva Grill).

With Black Friday just days away and the excitement of the holiday season beginning to build, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office offers Twelve Tips of Holiday Safety to help residents stay focused on personal safety.

“First and foremost, stay alert,” Sheriff Chuck Allen said. “Be careful not to get so caught up in the shopping frenzy that you lose awareness of your surroundings. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood or while out shopping, report it to law enforcement or store security.”

Zawadisha's annual Holiday Bazaar returns this holiday season on Saturday, December 3 at the Blue Angel Cafe in South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Knock out some of your holiday shopping while adding meaning to your gift by not only shopping local, but helping rural Kenyan women.

A portion of proceeds from this event allow Zawadisha to give small loans to rural Kenyan women for items with big impact like solar lamps, clean cook stoves, and water tanks. Stop by their table at the event to learn more.

One would think a car filled, bumper-to-bumper highway would be the most dangerous place for drivers to be during the holiday season, but no, crowded parking lots lead the list.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) has warned there are increased hazards of parking lot traffic during the holidays. Nationwide there are over 50,000 accidents in parking lots and garages resulting in 60,000 injuries and over 500 deaths. In fact. almost 20 percent of all accidents involving vehicles taking place where most might think driving 5 mph or less would lead to safer conditions.

A special holiday treat in South Lake Tahoe will be held on Saturday, December 19 when the public can enjoy the lighted Christmas truck, Santa and Mrs. Claus, latkes and cookies, carolers and tours of the decorated museum and cabin during the Holiday in History Open House.

The annual Lake Tahoe Historical Society event will be held at the museum located at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Victorian Christmas scene is spread throughout the museum and the historic cabin.

Zawadisha's annual Holiday Bazaar is back again, and this time in a new location. Join them at the Blue Angel Cafe on Saturday, December 5 to knock out your holiday shopping while helping to change the world at the same time. The event will be held in the loft upstairs at the restaurant located at 1132 Ski Run Blvd. from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Entrance is free and all ages are welcome.

Get into the holiday spirit and support community health at the forty-fifth annual Holiday Faire on Sunday, November 8. Community members and visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend this merry event at St. Teresa Grace Hall.

Every year, Barton Auxiliary volunteers and employees from The Attic Thrift Store select their favorite holiday and winter donations to sell at the Holiday Faire. Items available for purchase include holiday decorations, jewelry, antiques and collectibles, purses, gifts, and winter wear.

CARSON CITY – Nevada recorded its 26th consecutive month of taxable sales increases in August, when consumers spent $3.7 billion on goods and services for a 7.6 percent jump over August 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.
The last decrease in statewide taxable sales came in June 2010, when a 0.3 percent decline was reported over June 2009.
Taxable sales grew by 8.1 percent in Clark County and jumped double-digits in Washoe County to 10.5 percent.
