SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The middle of a pandemic is never an ideal time to open a new business, but the new Beautiful Mess vintage shop and thrift store has been a popular shopping stop for locals and visitors since opening September 3.

"If I can get through this, I can get through anything," said Beautiful Mess proprietor Jessica Marks of the pandemic.

Robert “Bob/Bo” Jones, loving husband, father, son, brother, and “Papa” passed away peacefully at home April 19 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janey; daughter Elyse and son-in-law Josh; son Grant; grandchildren Van and Goldie; brothers Paul and Brent (Lynn); extended family, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The annual Made in Tahoe festival held during the Memorial Day Weekend at Squaw Valley has moved their event to October, but, to highlight local craftspeople who would normally be there, a virtual weekend event has been created.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A four-week on-line acting workshop will be starting on May 11, 2020. Take 2 Performers Studio and Tahoe Production House have teamed up to bring this workshop to youth with a focus on television and film acting.

This is an interactive class where students will develop a solid foundation and acting techniques including improv, auditioning skills for film and television, and on-camera experience with instructors Justine Reyes and Holly Lorge.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe woman was arrested on Tuesday, April 7 after store employees allegedly found her licking items, and licking her fingers before putting things into her shopping cart.

The mid-town Safeway at the corner of Johnson and Lake Tahoe Boulevards called the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) after an employee said they spotted 53-year-old Jennifer Walker putting pieces of jewelry from the store on her hands and licking them.

According to SLTPD, Walker began to load her cart with merchandise from the store after licking her hands.

Keep Memory Alive hosted its annual Summer Social and Rodeo at Shakespeare Ranch, a private Lake Tahoe estate, this past weekend to raise money to support the work of Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and its fight against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, ALS and more.

Every year local Reno artists open their studio doors for a weekend to thousands of art lovers. This is "Reno Open Studios"​ and will take place September 6 -8 (same weekend as The Great Reno Balloon Races) This year, we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary. This year artists within Nevada Marketplace, Artists Co-op Gallery Reno, Latimer Art Club and about individual 40 artists will participate. A Washoe County detective says alleged murderer Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman told police he robbed and killed his elderly victims during a 10-day rampage in January because he needed money to buy methamphetamine to support his drug addiction, according to the Associated Press.

Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman was arrested on Jan. 19 in connection with the four murders of Gardnerville woman Connie Koontz, 56, Gardnerville woman Sophia Renken, 74, and South Reno Couple Jerry and Sherry David, 81 and 80.

A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to Zawadisha, a social enterprise founded in Lake Tahoe by Jen Gurecki and Julie Lowe. Zawadisha will invest the funds from the event into their leadership and business training program for rural Kenyan women.

The Enchanted Florist in South Lake Tahoe now has a new owner, long time local Karen Estes.

Owners Jeri and Noboru Oishi owned the popular flower shop on Emerald Bay Road for 16 years and handed over the keys to Estes on February 1, 2018.

"I love anything flowers," said Estes who had operated an online and corner market, Karen's Flower Stand.

As part of an ongoing investigation, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office ATAC detectives recently located some unique items they believe to be stolen, and are now attempting to locate potential victims.

Among the items recently recovered are two boxed bounce houses and two bounce house fans. Detectives also located a large, radio-controlled model helicopter, jewelry, and sporting equipment.

With Black Friday just days away and the excitement of the holiday season beginning to build, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office offers Twelve Tips of Holiday Safety to help residents stay focused on personal safety.
