Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra's virtual Elegant Evening a success

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many nonprofits have had to cancel their fundraisers due to the coronavirus, but the ladies of the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) club in South Lake Tahoe weren't going to let the virus stop them.

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?

Move it online, of course.

Removing abandoned cars in South Lake Tahoe

We've all seen them. Trailers and vehicles of all types parked on the side of the road for days, and even weeks or months with no apparent owner. Have you ever wondered what the process is?

In July, a white Mustang was abandoned on the side of Gardner Street behind Les Schwab Tires. It was stripped of everything of value, including tires and parts of the motor. Some remains of this once nice car, along with computer parts were strewn about, left for someone to take care of.

Who is that someone?

Letter: Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra club thanks all who made Elegant Evening a success

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra’s Elegant Evening 2018 at Harrah’s Tahoe was a huge success and that was due to the generosity of businesses and friends both near and far.

Thank you to all who attended this fun, entertaining and worthwhile event and those that donated to enable our support of the many programs and organizations we assist. As always, all money raised is invested into schools, scholarships, community projects, youth, and services both locally and globally. (www.sitahoesierra.org) .t

For youth competing in their first Triathlon or for those progressing their development, organizers say Tahoe Paradise Park truly is a remarkable venue for the following reasons:

Caltrops on South Shore roads causing dozens of flat tires

South Lake Tahoe local Monika Taboada was picking her daughter up from the training room at South Tahoe High on Sunday when she received a flat on one of her new snow tires, leaving her the victim of another "Ninja Road Star" being left on roads around town.

Over the past several months there have been dozens of stories just like Taboada's.

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy involved in three-car crash

"I believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival," the 2nd President of the United States John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail. "It ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other..."
