Warning signs and resources to know during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

During the month of September, the El Dorado County (EDC) Behavioral Health Division encourages the community to “know the signs, find the words, and reach out” to prevent suicide, as well as learn about local suicide prevention resources.

As we all know, change is hard but change can also be exciting. Both our staff and board are embracing the New Year with excitement and renewed energy.
The following are new programs that will be happening:
o Homeless program for youth 18 – 24 years in South Lake Tahoe, SLT
o Expanded SLT Host home program for youth under 18 including those youth who are involved with child welfare services, juvenile probation, and the McKinney Vento program.
Meeting Duran Duran next week the goal of beloved South Lake Tahoe teacher

Many have followed her journey to meet Duran Duran and lead singer Simon Le Bon. In August of 2015, we carried her story to gain the notice of comedienne Ellen DeGeneres so she could go to her show and meet Le Bon and the band.
Grant applications being accepted for $50,000 in funding to improve community health

As part of Barton Health’s commitment to community health and collaboration, these annual grants provides funding for programs and services that positively impact the health of the local community. Senator Coons officiates at wedding of South Tahoe High School Ally Club founder

The newlyweds met three years ago in Washington, DC, where Alex works as the LGBTQ Finance Director for the Democratic National Committee and Scott is employed as an Associate Attorney at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP.
Human Rights Campaign hosting South Lake Tahoe event

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The national Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is fighting for equality in the upcoming midterm elections and to gather support locally, no matter which side of the aisle one votes, an event is being held at Sidellis Brewery on Thursday, October 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
HRC is working with the ALLY clubs at both South Tahoe High School (STHS) and Lake Tahoe Community College to engage LGBTQ voices and mobilize pro-equality voters to hold lawmakers accountable.
2018 Tahoe Pride Art Show

June 30, 2018 - 2:00pm The 2018 Tahoe Pride Art Show, "Love is a National Treasure," shines light on the diversity of our community and is opening this month at the Benko Art Gallery. All are invited to the opening event on Saturday, June 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to celebrate our most precious national treasure: LOVE. Work from Tahoe artists Scott Forrest, Shelley Zentner, Red Stickman, Catherine Schoen, Hayden Tencher, and emerging artists from South Tahoe High School will be on display. Local musician Hailie Hay will be performing new music. This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome.
