2018 Tahoe Pride Art Show

Event Date:
June 30, 2018 - 2:00pm

The 2018 Tahoe Pride Art Show, "Love is a National Treasure," shines light on the diversity of our community and is opening this month at the Benko Art Gallery. All are invited to the opening event on Saturday, June 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to celebrate our most precious national treasure: LOVE. Work from Tahoe artists Scott Forrest, Shelley Zentner, Red Stickman, Catherine Schoen, Hayden Tencher, and emerging artists from South Tahoe High School will be on display. Local musician Hailie Hay will be performing new music. This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome.

The 2018 Tahoe Pride Art Show is presented by MakeTahoe.com with support from Tahoe Pride and takes place at Benko Art Gallery, 3979 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The exhibit will run June 30th through July 8th. Tahoe Pride (LakeTahoePride.org) is a safe, welcoming place for LGBT people and their friends to build community by organizing a variety of activities to promote equality and respect. Benko Art Gallery (BenkoArtGallery.com) was voted South Shore’s Best Gallery for the second year in a row in Tahoe Daily Tribune’s “Best of Tahoe”.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to Live Violence Free. Live Violence Free is committed to promoting a violence free community through education and advocacy to address domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and basic needs. You can donate directly to Live Violence Free in honor of the Tahoe Pride Art Show by clicking on the donate button at LiveViolenceFree.org.

SCOTT FORREST: The art of Scott Forrest (ScottForrestArt.com) is part of the permanent collection at The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, and has graced the pages of Rolling Stone, Newsweek, and Spin Magazine. Forrest’s painting “Atomic Sunflower” was recently chosen as an iconic image by CBS Television’s show “Sunday Morning”. Each monumental painting takes on its own unique voice, some rhythmic and textural, drawing from inspiration by De Kooning and Motherwell, with others featuring Forrest’s signature bold and sweeping brush strokes as seen in ancient Japanese Ink Painting. Every painting features an unexpected visceral and multi-dimensional visual experience for the viewer in 3D.

SHELLEY ZENTNER: Shelley Zentner (ShelleyZen.us) is the founding member of the local activist group, Tahoe Activist Artists, whose mission is to promote compassion, conversation, and connection in our local community through art. Zentner is a professional artist and faculty member at Lake Tahoe Community College Art Department. Zentner’s most recent exhibit, “Fundamental Freedoms” at LTCC’s Foyer Gallery, is a collection celebrating heroic efforts by committed, passionate individuals to fight for fundamental freedoms. Born in Wales, Great Britain, Zentner came to the United States in 2005 on a bouldering road trip, fell in love, and never left.
