Military Set to Receive Free Tickets to American Century Celebrity Golf

The free tickets are being offered in appreciation of their service to the country.
American Century Golf Championship Distributes Over $145,000 to Local Non-Profits

In a ceremony on Thursday, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority distributed the checks through funds raised during the annual celebrity golf tournament.

August 17, 2013 - 10:00am The 2nd Annual Dog Carnival returns to South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, August 17 from 10 am to 4 pm. The non-profit Dawgs on the Run puts on the event to promote the fun and benefits of having dogs in our lives. This full day of fun is for dogs and their humans to enjoy and includes games, contests, raffles, food, prizes and informative demonstrations. All leashed dogs are invited!

PHR Management, Inc., an affiliate of Ken Corporation, LTD., the Japan-based ownership group, will assume management of the hotel. Max Saito, vice president of PHR, said the company will retain the hotel’s 220 employees.

“Nevada State Bank has been instrumental in providing WISH program funding for the NRHA,” said Gary Longaker, NRHA Executive Director. “The money comes from an award by the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco and Nevada State Bank has been an important player in bringing these dollars into our region to help young rural families go from renters to first time home buyers,” he said.
Nevada governor appoints Lake Tahoe ski industry stalwart John Wagnon to Tourism Commission

Wagnon, a 40-year veteran of the snowsports industry, is senior director of brand marketing for Vail Resorts, Inc at Heavenly Mountain Resort south shore Lake Tahoe and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.
He has served on the on the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Ski Lake Tahoe and the California Travel Industry Association boards. Wagnon is also a trustee and past chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board.

Through the Home at Last™ Access program, qualified home buyers receive a generous 4 percent down payment grant, which does not have to be paid back. Now, the program is offering even lower mortgage interest rates on a conventional, 30-year fixed rate loan. Through participating lenders, the interest rates on FHA, VA or USDA-RD home mortgages have dropped from 3.75 percent to the current rate of 3.5 percent, which is an historic low.

University of California to host Forest Landowner Workshops

The University of California will host a two-part workshop series on succession planning to help forest landowners learn simple techniques to pass their land and its legacy on to the next generation. Fitch Affirms South Tahoe Public Utility District with AA+; Rating Outlook Stable

The firm, which positions itself as a global rating agency dedicated to providing value beyond the rating through independent and prospective credit opinions, research and data, gave the water and sewer district a AA+ rating, noting $10.8 million sewer revenue certificates of participation. The ratings agency also asserts that STPUD continues to have strong reserves in place that protects the district against a reduction in its property tax revenues.

Seasonal dog ban at Upper Truckee Marsh planned for late spring

The dog ban is meant to protect sensitive wildlife areas, including threatened and endangered species, during breeding season. The Upper Truckee Marsh provides critical breeding habitat. The dog ban begins May 1.
