Nevada Highway Patrol to conduct DUI checkpoints in joint effort with Douglas, Washoe, Carson City
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 12/14/2012 - 11:35amWith the December holiday season upon us and the upcoming New Year just around the corner, numerous holiday parties and other work and family-related get-togethers will be celebrated and they often involve the consumption of alcohol. In an effort to identify those impaired drivers who may get behind the wheel after consuming too much alcohol, additional NHP Troopers, as well as a multi-agency DUI checkpoint, are being scheduled this month.
Supervisors Offer Support for Naming Lake Tahoe Peak for Fallen Warriors
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 12/13/2012 - 10:58amThe Placer County Supervisors this week gave their support to efforts to name an unnamed peak in Eastern Placer County in honor of three Tahoe-area servicemen who were killed in action in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The peak, located in the Lake Tahoe Basin on United States Forest Service land in Placer County, will be called Gold Star Peak.
The three fallen men include two soldiers and one Marine:
PFC Phillip Brandon Williams, USMC, 21, died October 9, 2006 in Iraq;
Sergeant Timothy M. Smith, USA, 25, died April 7, 2008 in Iraq; and

South Lake Tahoe City Manager Nancy Kerry announced the appointment of Bruce Martin as South Lake Tahoe Fire Departments Interim Fire Chief at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
“I am very excited to welcome Chief Martin to lead, encourage and support our dedicated team of fire fighters,” said Kerry. “Chief Martin’s long and exemplary career in fire service provides him with a platform to be an excellent leader as the Interim Fire Chief.”

Memorial scholarship established for former LTCC student Lyra B. Fisher

Roderick Paul Clifton, 44, of Citrus Heights, and also listed as being from Gardnerville and Paula Lane, 46, also of Gardnerville, were reported missing by relatives when they didn't answer their cellphones and didn't return to Nevada by that night, according to Citrus Heights Police Department Det. Sgt. Lee Harrington.

South Lake Tahoe police to crack down on drivers texting, using cell phones

The effort is a special federally funded pilot program using the region to test tactics that may be employed nationally in the future.

After careful evaluation of 19 grant applications, nine-non-profits recently received $24,000 in grants from the CAC. Around 11:15 Thursday night police and fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire at the trailer park on James Avenue. Several evacutions were made as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

On August 26 an unidentified male entered a clothing store in the 3500 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe and attempted to take video and/or pictures of a female in a dressing room using his cell phone by holding it under the door of the dressing room.
The victim’s boyfriend confronted the suspect who immediately ran from the shop.

NHP reports numerous crashes, arrests during Street Vibration events
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/24/2012 - 9:14amThe Nevada Highway Patrol reports investigating 65 crashes associated with the 2012 Street Vibration motorcycle rally which had riders attending events between Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
There were no fatalities associated with the annual motorcycle rally, according to NHP. Reno police however, were investigating a Sunday morning fatal crash on Plumb Lane. It is unknown if that was related to the motorcycle rally.
Police clarify fraud alert regarding contractor work

Since that release the South Lake Tahoe Police Department has been contacted by South West Gas who advised they do indeed have three private contractors working in South Lake Tahoe. A new name and new partnership fashioned after health, recreation and fun; South Lake Tahoe’s inaugural Lake Tahoe Lifestyle Festival drew nearly 2,000 attendees on Saturday, September 8 to Bijou Community Park. This new festival was crafted by Barton Health and the City of South Lake Tahoe to bring children, families and individuals together for health education and non-stop excitement.
