The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the Eric Nageotte-Lowe Memorial Fundraiser to celebrate the life of former South Lake Tahoe resident and Heavenly Freestyle Team member, Eric Nageotte-Lowe this Saturday, Jan. 26, from 5pm to 8pm at the Himmel Haus, 2819 Saddle Rd. across from Heavenly Mountain’s California base area.

“While Eric was a great skier,” said his coach Jere Crawford, “he was an even better person.”

Bank of the West signs on as presenting sponsor of Rahlves’ Banzai Tour

The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour hosted this winter at several Lake Tahoe resorts has a new sponsor. Bank of the West has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the downhill ski and snowboard event created by Daron Rahlves, considered among the most decorated American downhill and Super G skier in U.S. history. The tour spans four weekends from Feb. 2 – March 10 at four of Lake Tahoe resorts.

South Lake Tahoe Celebrates 47th Anniversary

The City of South Lake Tahoe celebrates its 47th Anniversary today. The City was incorporated on November 30, 1965.

“We are very grateful for those who cultivated and formed our City for future generations. We were established to provide core services; snow removal, police and fire; and this is what we’re going back to forty-seven years later,” said Mayor Claire Fortier. “Let’s all celebrate.”

South Lake Tahoe Turkey Trot Race Results

The City of South Lake Tahoe held the 2012 Turkey Trot Fun Run last Saturday, November 17th at the Parks and Recreation facility. The Fun Run was a free event for children ages 3-13 and every participant was a winner of either a turkey, pumpkin pie or swim pass. Thank you to the many local volunteers who pitched in to make this event a success, including Raley’s for their generous donation of all the turkeys and pies ad well as the Optimist Club for their continued support of this annual event.

Kirkwood opens 40th season with four feet of snow

Kirkwood Mountain Resort opened its 40th anniversary season when the lifts began turning at 9 a.m. Friday, five days earlier than its originally-scheduled opening day. Kirkwood opened with one chairlift and five trails, accessing 40 total acres.
“The last two storms that have rolled through the Sierra have dropped a combined four feet of snow at Kirkwood, allowing us to open early for all our passionate skiers and riders,” said Casey Blann, general manager of Kirkwood. “This will be a great start to the 40th anniversary season at Kirkwood, and the first with Vail Resorts.”

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the 24th Annual Ski and Snowboard Swap at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa on Saturday Nov. 17.
Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides skiing and snowboarding programs and events for regional youth and local middle school and high school students. The swap runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Democrats Continue To Outpace Republicans In Nevada Voter Registration

CARSON CITY — Democrats continue to out-register their Republican counterparts, with the latest data from Clark County now showing a more than 100,000 voter advantage as the deadline to participate in the Nov. 6 general election draws ever closer.
Today just before noon the Clark County website, which updates registration totals regularly, showed 346,703 Democrats registered to vote compared to 246,479 for Republicans, a 100,224 advantage.
