SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you've been near the shore of South Lake Tahoe at Regan Beach at any time since fall you've most likely seen a partially sunken sailboat sitting just offshore. The boat's mast and wet sails have been sticking up through the water, an eyesore to many trying to take photos of the scenic view, a topic of conversation to others trying to figure out what happened.

Fundraiser to get 40 bikes for Boys and Girls Club Mountain Bike Program

The Tahoe Fund is partnering with members of the South Lake Tahoe Community to bring 40 new Specialized mountain bikes, helmets and mountain bike coaching to youth at the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club, SOS Outreach, and the South Lake Tahoe Middle School. The bikes will provide kids greater access to trails in Tahoe and the nearby Bijou Bike Park.

STPUD approves lower water and sewer rate hikes than originally planned

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the past few months, the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) has been meeting with staff and the public to discuss rate changes needed to improve the water, sewer and recycled water systems to their customers.

To start the process of raising rates each year for the next five years, STPUD followed a set of rules outlined under Proposition 218, one of which was to send notices to their ratepayers on how much the proposed increase could be.

The Beach Bash includes live music, beachside barbecue, silent auction, games, a bounce house, face painting, beautiful lake views, beer and wine tasting, Homebrew for the Homeless’s home-brewed beer contest, and more.

City Council overturns Planning Commission ruling on VHR permit

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During Tuesday's City Council meeting, one vacation home rental (VHR) owner lost their permit to operate in South Lake Tahoe after the Tahoe Neighborhoods Group appealed a decision by the Planning Commission.

On March 14, the commission decided to overturn City staff's revocation of VHR permit ##005258 located at 797 San Jose Avenue, Unit B. Staff had revoked the permit in January when the owner of the home, Susan Porter of San Ramon, didn't meet the deadline for renewing her permit or paying the required transient occupancy tax (TOT).

Local Realtors donate 88 Easter baskets to South Lake Tahoe youth

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Local Realtors from South Lake Tahoe recently put on their bunny ears and delivered Easter baskets full of special treats for local youth.

The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® (STAR) used funds from its Community Involvement Committee resources along with other donated funds to purchase 88 pre-made baskets from the South Lake Tahoe KMart. Volunteers shopped and delivered the baskets to the Family Resource Center and Live Violence Free Center in South Lake Tahoe.

South Lake Tahoe students celebrated during World Down Syndrome Day

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a day of crazy socks, mismatched shoes and untied shoelaces at the Sierra House Elementary campus at Al Tahoe Learning Center Thursday in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day.

Kindergarten teacher Amy Terpening organized #RockYourSocks day in her classroom and held a surprise celebration of her student Dylan Polan who has Down Syndrome. The six-year-old came through a tunnel created by her fellow students and then sat down to be "interviewed" by her teacher. The students displayed paper socks they decorated with fun shapes and colors.

STPUD starts process to raise water and sewer rates

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) will start the process to raise water service rates by up to six percent and sewer rates by up to five percent in order to start replacing aging pipes and providing improved fire flow throughout their service area. If fully implemented, this increase would fuel an $81.5M capital improvement program for sewer improvements, and $70M for water system improvements, especially fire flow projects.

Teachers fill LTUSD board room to ask for pay increases

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dozens of school teachers in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) filled the board room in South Lake Tahoe last Tuesday to show trustees they want a cost of living increase to their pay.

Jodi Dayberry, President of the South Tahoe Educators Association, led the teachers in their presentation to the LTUSD Board of Trustees, telling the five elected members teachers are struggling due to the high cost of living and many have second jobs and summer jobs to fill their financial void.

Azul Latin Kitchen raises almost $17,000 for Live Violence Free in 2018

Pink Heavenly event to raise funds for South Lake Tahoe area locals fighting cancer

Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe signs land lease, first step for new clubhouse

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community could see a new Boys and Girls Club in South Lake Tahoe as early as Spring 2021.

During their November 13 meeting, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board voted unanimously to approve a ground lease between them and the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT), enabling the nonprofit youth club to build on a lot owned by the district adjacent to their current location at Al Tahoe Elementary.

Reno-Tahoe area no longer in the running to host 2030 Winter Olympics

On Monday, the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition (RTWGC) announced it has officially declined an invitation to bid for a future Winter Olympics. With their departure, Salt Lake City and Denver remain as the last two selected finalists by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to be a future bid city.

They had a deadline of November 9, 2018 to submit responses to a detailed workbook covering the areas of bid vision, venue planning, transportation planning, security, budgets and public engagements among other topics.
