November 11, 2023 - 6:00pm Shakespearian actors will join the Reno Jazz Orchestra to perform the music of Duke Ellington’s “Such Sweet Thunder” concert on November 11 and 12, 2023, at the Good Luck Macbeth theater in Reno, Nevada. David A. Brennan, DMA, will be the Guest Music Director, and the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s Jazz Workshop students will open the show.

June 4, 2022 (All day) Come experience Northern Nevada's finest jazz musicians as Music Director Doug Coomler and the Reno Jazz Orchestra present the music of the Thad Jones and Mel Lewis Orchestra.
This big band jazz Orchestra became world-famous, especially with their 1967 release, Live at the Village Vanguard. The album was nominated for a GRAMMY in that same year under the category of "Best Instrumental Jazz Performance of a Large Group." The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra went on to win a GRAMMY in 1979.
A bonus! The Reno Jazz Workshop students open both concerts.

Accompanying the RJO are vocalists Lori Johnson, David Wells, Kira McGlothen, Caitlin Collins Martin, and Kandeh Jones who together will present the captivating sounds of soul, funk, jazz, and chart-topping hits such as Shining Star, In the Stone, After the Love Has Gone, September, and many other favorite songs.

November 8, 2019 (All day) Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra Director Vern Scharbrough, will guest conduct the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s November concerts and feature the music of Stan Kenton on November 8 and 9 in Reno, NV.
Kenton was one of the legendary bandleaders like Duke Ellington and Count Basie who elevated big bands from the dance hall to the concert hall each with their own distinctive sound.

The South Shore community is coming together on November 14 at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe's Vinyl for musician Trey Stone who is now in end stage kidney failure. Stone's friends in the musical word are donating their talent for a one night event to support his efforts to heal, get on dialysis and eventually get a kidney transplant.
Tickets are $20 and there will be raffles and a silent auction.
All proceeds will go to healing Trey and helping him continue gracing the world with his talent.

NHP still searching for driver involved in hit and run
Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/17/2014 - 9:23pmThe Nevada Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver of a silver 4-door Cadillac who was involved in a hit and run on August 7 in Sun Valley near Reno.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. the Cadillac rear ended a white Subaru on SR443 (Sun Valley Blvd) southbound just north of Second Street. After the collision the white Subaru pulled to the shoulder and stopped. The driver of the silver Cadillac continued South on SR 443 (Sun Valley Blvd) without stopping.
"Jazz & Beyond" Music Festival Includes Entertainment at the Nevada Sesquicentennial Fair

August 2, 2014 - 12:00pm The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival," in collaboration with Carson City, is proud to present five of several bands at the Nevada Sesquicentennial Fair in Fuji Park on Saturday, August 2. "Jazz & Beyond" runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 17 and features over 50 events, mainly in the downtown Carson City area.
The five "Jazz & Beyond" bands at the Fair on August 2 are Sons of Slide Mountain, RVGS Tantalus, Lynne Colvig Latin Jazz, the Reno Jazz Orchestra with singer Jackie Landrum, and the St. Christopher Project, featuring the music of Tom Waits.

Accompanying the accomplished musicians of the RJO are vocalists Cami Thompson and Kenn Pettiford, international Tap star Sam Weber and performers from the Sierra Nevada Ballet under the direction of Rosine Bena. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Vern Scarbrough, will open the holiday performance which starts at 7:30 pm.
