Reno Jazz Orchestra Presents the Artistry of Stan Kenton

Event Date:
November 8, 2019 (All day)

Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra Director Vern Scharbrough, will guest conduct the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s November concerts and feature the music of Stan Kenton on November 8 and 9 in Reno, NV.

Kenton was one of the legendary bandleaders like Duke Ellington and Count Basie who elevated big bands from the dance hall to the concert hall each with their own distinctive sound.

“For this performance, Scarbrough will choose from over forty Kenton compositions/arrangements from the classic Malaguena to jazz standards like All the Things You Are, to more experimental pieces like Theme and Variations,” said Chuck Reider, Music Director for the Reno Jazz Orchestra.

For four decades Kenton led his innovative and influential band and pioneered jazz education with his Stan Kenton Jazz Camp established in 1959.

In respect for his educational vision and leadership, members of the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s Saturday Jazz Workshops will open both performances. Dylan Coleman-Tunstall will direct this student presentation.

The performances will be held at the Good Luck Macbeth Theater, located at 124 W. Taylor Street, in mid-town Reno, NV. Tickets are $25 General Seating and $10 for Students (with I.D.) and are now on sale at RenoJazzOrchestra.org.

The Reno Jazz Orchestra is a 17-piece contemporary big band based in Northern Nevada that has just celebrated its 22nd Anniversary. The orchestra was formed in 1997 by musicians who have performed with acts such as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis Presley, Natalie Cole and Luciano Pavarotti.
