Burn pile spreads into brush fire on Cold Creek Trail in South Lake Tahoe (updated)
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 05/25/2012 - 11:36amUpdate 12:22PM: A small brush fire on Cold Creek Trail in South Lake Tahoe is contained and burned about one-quarter of an acre, reports U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Cheva Heck. Fire personnel from Lake Valley Fire Protection District and South Lake Tahoe and U.S. Forest Service brought the fire to containment. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Heck said. Initial reports that came in said the fire started as a backyard burn pile.

The year was 1960, and the Squaw Valley Games boasted a grand total of 17 events.
Fast forward more than half a century and Lake Tahoe again wants to host the Olympics. By 2022, the year they're shooting for, the Winter Games will have more than 90 events.

On Wednesday, December 7th, 2011 at approximately 2:10 pm, deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to what was reported as a dead body lying outside of a white truck in the Gardnerville Cemetery.
A DCSO deputy arrived on-scene approximately six minutes later and found an adult male, later identified as 77 year-old David Pendleton, in the cemetery near the described truck. Pendleton was holding a shotgun in his hands.

Saturday morning, workers could be seen inside and outside of the restaurant on South Carson Street - putting in new windows. An IHOP spokesperson told KOLO 8 News Now that the restaurant is scheduled to reopen before the holidays, however she would not give an exact date. On this same weekend, members of the community came together to help out those who survived the shooting rampage. Go here for the story and video.
