El Dorado County man arrested after mother and brother found dead

A dispute over an inheritance is the apparent reason an El Dorado County man and his mother are dead, according to authorities.

Milo Lloyd Wallace, 49, was arrested at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, November 12 on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon. His mother, 71-year-old Sandra Wallace, and brother Matthew Wallace, 38, were found dead with gunshot wounds Wednesday evening at the home his mother owned in the Oak Hill area southeast of Placerville.

Seven local gang members arrested in South Lake Tahoe

Suspicious activity on Halloween night led to the arrest of five men and two juvenile girls in South Lake Tahoe on several charges.

Near midnight, two officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) observed two car loads of suspected gang members drive to the dead end of Spruce Avenue, where a drive-by shooting on October 14 had taken place. Some of the occupants had blue bandanas over their faces.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested after shots fired at parked car

A 23-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested on October 29 on charges of being an ex-felon in possession of firearm, ammunition and for resisting arrest after a shooting the previous day.

Jahem Barton is suspected of firing several rounds into a car parked in front of a home in the 800 block of Emerald Bay Road.

According to South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Brian Williams, there is an active investigation into the matter and no other details are available at this time.

Barton remains jailed in the El Dorado County Jail Saturday night on a $38,000 bail hold.

Gunman identified in South Lake Tahoe drive-by shooting

Authorities have identified the suspected shooter in last week's drive-by shooting in South Lake Tahoe.

Samuel Tovar, 26, of South Lake Tahoe is wanted for shooting at a 19-year-old man who was standing in a lot near the corner of Highway 50 and Ski Run Boulevard just before midnight on October 14, 2015. Police were called when the unidentified victim showed up at Barton Hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg.

Authorities find runaway who threatened a school shooting

9:45 p.m. update 10/15/15: Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports that the young man who ran away from China Spring Youth Camp was found at the Walmart on Topsy Lane and taken into custody. He was arrested without incident or injuries.

Numerous tips received by law enforcement led to his capture.

South Lake Tahoe man wounded in drive-by shooting

A 19-year-old man was shot in the leg overnight, apparently the victim of a drive-by shooting near the intersection of Highway 50 and Ski Run Boulevard. Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department were called to Barton Hospital just after midnight on the report of a man with a gunshot wound.

The unidentified man's injury is not life threatening according to SLTPD Lt. David Stevenson.

Since the shooting, police have recovered a truck near the "Y" that is suspected of being involved in the crime.

Son and mother both dead after domestic dispute at Minden home

8 a.m. update 10/17/15: The shooter involved in Tuesday's domestic dispute has died, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) announced this morning.

A preliminary report shows that 27-year-old Jarek Kozlowski died of respiratory failure at the hospital October 16 at 7:40 p.m. DSCO said the report shows Kozlowski did not as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting incident.

Carson City IHOP shooting victims, survivors remembered

Dozens of runners and walkers, including Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, took to the streets of the capital city early Sunday for a remembrance run to recognize the victims of the Sept. 6, 2011 shooting at the IHOP in Carson City.

Four years ago Sunday, Nevada Guardsmen Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, 35, Master Sgt. Christian Riege, 38, Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney, 31, and civilian Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67, of South Lake Tahoe, were killed in the shooting rampage, in which the mentally ill gunman took his own life. Two other soldiers and seven patrons suffered injuries.

Gardnerville shooting leaves man with life threatening injuries

12:00 p.m. update 8/19:

More details are now known about Tuesday night's shooting in Gardnerville. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has learned that earlier in the evening, at 8:20 p.m., there was a fight at the Ann Way residence between four individuals. During that altercation, the person of interest in the shooting, 56-year-old John Stalcup, was a victim of a battery.

When Deputies arrived on scene, the suspect in the battery had fled the scene.

Lake Tahoe radio host, standup comedian and emcee of the Improv at Harveys, Howie Nave is among 62 Nevada radio and television personalities and managers who will be inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame this Saturday in Las Vegas.

Nave, who has been with KRLT FM 93.9 as host of “Howie’s Morning Rush” at Lake Tahoe for nearly 15 years, will be inducted at the Four Seasons Hotel. He joins the ranks of more than 800 broadcasters from around Nevada who make up the Hall of Fame.

Forests grapple with 8,500 gun incidents

Perched around a secluded campfire in the Rocky Mountains, Glenn Martin jerked forward, said, "Ow," and died. The wayward bullet that struck him in the national forest has campers and other users calling for changes in recreational shooting policy.

Martin, 60, died July 3 in the Pike & San Isabel National Forest, 30 miles southwest of Denver. The 3.1-million-acre forest holds the record for the most gun-related violations reported in the country, a review of federal records by the USA TODAY Media Network shows.

Deputies identified in Douglas County officer involved shooting

The six Douglas County Sheriff's deputies involved in Thursday's shooting of an armed man have been identified.

The group has a total of 69 years of experience in law enforcement. They are (with rank and years of service):

Sergeant Dan Coverley, 18 years; Sergeant Dave Stanley, 13 years; Investigator Jon Storke, 13 years; Deputy Jeff Johnsen, 10 years; Deputy Matt Saylo, 9 years; and Deputy Justin Williams, 6 years.

Nevada State Fair wraps up in Carson City on Sunday

Man arrested in Incline Village after he shoots at car in Meyers

A 34-year-old man from Galt, CA was arrested in Incline Village, NV on Thursday night after turning himself in for shooting at a car in Meyers.

At approximately 9:18 p.m. on July 30, a Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound near the intersection of Highway 89 and Highway 50. The driver of the Prius said he was shot at by a passing vehicle. He couldn't identify the make of the car but thought it was a gold or tan sedan. Neither occupant in the Prius were injured though a bullet was found lodged in the driver's seat after it passed through the car door.

Six Douglas County deputies on administrative leave after shooting of Nevada man

A Gardnerville, NV man is dead after being shot by Douglas County deputies on Thursday.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies were received a report at 2 p.m. that Gardnerville Ranchos resident, Mark Perkins age 48, was armed with multiple weapons and had threatened his wife and told her he was going to shoot a police officer and kill a neighbor.

After receiving an arrest warrant for Perkins and a search warrant for his Monument Peak Drive home, S.W.A.T. and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) were activated to serve the warrants.

Area Search and Rescue volunteers help in Shasta County

Almost 40 Search and Rescue volunteers from El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services (OES) went to Shasta County over the weekend to help search vast terrain for an abducted 6-month-old baby.

The team of 20 volunteers were in Redding, CA, just hours after their services were requested on Friday, July 10 and spent the weekend searching through chest high starthistle and stickers, with no sign of the missing baby. Another group of 18 El Dorado County Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers headed up on Sunday.

Officer identified in South Lake Tahoe shooting

The name of the South Lake Tahoe Police Officer involved in the June 15 shooting of 22-year-old Kris Jackson has been released.

Officer Joshua Klinge was the officer who responded to a 2:40 a.m. call about a woman screaming and crying at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn on Lake Tahoe Blvd. The officer shot Jackson in the torso after feeling threatened according to earlier reports. Jackson died shortly afterwards at Barton Memorial Hospital.

Anger surrounds bear shooting in South Lake Tahoe

A 78-year old man has been identified as the person responsible for killing a bear found off Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Janice Mackey, Information Officer for the agency, told South Tahoe Now that the bear who died was responsible for several South Lake Tahoe residential break ins that had been reported multiple times. "The break-ins caused a lot of documented damage," said Mackey.

Man arrested for fireworks, being drunk and spitting on deputy

An El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy, thinking he heard the sound of fireworks, responded to the area of El Dorado Hills Library on July 4 at about 11:00 p.m. Checking the area of Tilden Drive and Avellano Drive, he found the fireworks sounding like they were coming from a residential backyard. With the assistance of witnesses and Serrano Security, the deputy located several persons lighting and shooting off illegal fireworks from the back of a house in the 3800 block of Tilden Drive.

New fireworks company for the South Lake Tahoe July 4th show

There's a new show in town, and tens of thousands of people will get to see it for the first time on Independence Day.

While many South Lake Tahoe fireworks fans might not even notice, this year's stunning "Lights on the Lake" pyrotechnical performance is now being created by world-renowned 'Fireworks by Grucci' out of New York.

Grucci is a sixth-generation family owned company who owns two Guinness World Records and have been putting on fireworks shows around the world since 1850. They are known as the "First Family of Fireworks."

Red Flag warning for Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity in effect from 12:00 p.m. through 10 p.m. Sunday for the Lake Tahoe Basin and parts of western Nevada.

They are calling for winds southwest to west at 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph, with two to four foot waves on Lake Tahoe. These are hazardous conditions for kayakers and paddleboarders.

This combination of gusty winds and low humidity will create conditions that could promote rapid fire growth.

Body cameras not in the near future for South Lake Tahoe Police

In light of the recent officer involved shooting in South Lake Tahoe, the discussion about body cameras being worn by local law enforcement has once again surfaced. While there has been discussion by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), according to Lt. Brian Williams, no decisions have been made.

"A large part [of the wearing of cameras] hinges on the State as there may be regulations coming soon," said Williams. He said they have to watch out for taxpayers dollars and not spend money on a system that might not be allowed by state laws.

The investigation is continuing into the officer involved shooting of 22-year-old Kris Jackson in South Lake Tahoe.

As reported, the young man was fatally shot by a South Lake Tahoe Police Officer on Monday, June 15 at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn.

Gangs are a problem in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe may be a small city of around 23,000 residents but it isn't immune to the big city problems of gangs.

Our mountain hamlet has white gangs, a black gang, hispanic gangs, motorcycle gangs and even white supremacists and sometimes they cross racial lines in order to beef up numbers. The gang names won't be mentioned in this article because of the advertising value it would give them as they try and recruit children and new members.

Last week's arrest of three gang members for a home invasion robbery brought the comment to the forefront..."Tahoe has gangs?"

A shooting Wednesday in the Bijou area of South Lake Tahoe led to the arrest of 22 year old Angelo Anderson.

Police officers responded to multiple reports of a man discharging shots at a moving vehicle as it traveled on Fawn Way, which is located between Highway 50 and Glenwood Way.

Gardnerville Shooting Today Leaves One Man Dead

12/3/13 9 am update: A 29 year old woman from Gardnerville, NV, Nicole Christine Followill, has been arrested and booked on the charge of open murder with the death of a fellow Gardnerville resident Monday morning. The victim has been identified as 33 year old Jason Richard Thrift of Gardnerville. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, the two apparently were involved in a dispute, Followill produced a handgun and shot Thrift. Followill will be arraigned in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday, December 4.

Elderly Man Shoots and Kills Caregiver in Douglas County

More information is coming out about Thursday's 1 pm shooting in the Fish Springs area of Douglas County. 81 year old Melvin Norlund was involved in an altercation with his 51 year old caregiver, Catherine Mary Costanza. Norlund said he shot and killed her and then asked a neighbor to call 911.

Deadly Shooting at Sparks Middle School

11:00 am update: Sparks Police confirm that a Sparks Middle School staff member and the student gunman are the two dead from this morning's schoolyard shooting and that two minors are in critical condition at Renown Medical Center. South Lake Tahoe police release more details on gas station murder

South Lake Tahoe police continue to investigate a shooting Tuesday night that left a 27-year-old gas station attendant dead and a gunman who remains at large.

The suspect is described as a thin male suspect approximately 5’8” to to 5’-10” who entered the USA Gas Station at 2470 Lake Tahoe Boulevard before 11 p.m. shooting the clerk with a handgun and fleeing. A gas station customer found the adult male clerk on the floor in a pool of blood and called 911 for help.
