The 6th Annual Memorial Celebration in Honor of Sgt. Timothy Smith of South Lake Tahoe will be held on Monday, April 7 at his mother Patty Smith's home.

Sgt. Smith, 25, of South Lake Tahoe, assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), located at Fort Polk, La.; died April 7 2008 in Baghdad of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.

For the past 25 years, the South Lake Tahoe's signature sporting event has been the American Century Championship. This year's event will feature a hero among the slate of celebrities from the sports and entertainment fields. Retired United States Army Corporal Chad Pfeifer, an Iraqi War Veteran and amputee whose golf-centered rehabilitation has turned him into a top-tier tournament player, will play in the July tournament.

3 Cars Stolen in 16 Hours in South Lake Tahoe; 3 Suspects Arrested

Three Placerville 18 year olds have been arrested in connection with three auto thefts that took place in South Lake Tahoe between 7 p.m. March 31 and 11 a.m. April 1. The trio is also suspected in stealing contents from other cars as well.

Brian Barnes, Elija Kidwell and Sean Murphy were arrested and book into El Dorado County Jail on felony charges of auto theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy for at least one of the auto thefts and to some of the property thefts.

Lakeside Inn and Casino Returns Cattle Grazing to Historic Lake Shore Meadow

April 1, 2014 (Stateline, Nev.) -- Lakeside Inn and Casino announced the United States Forest Service would be processing a permit for livestock grazing in Rabe Meadow, land adjacent to the hotel/casino for the purpose of raising prime Angus beef for Brazilian Barbecue at its Latin Soul restaurant. Rabe Meadow has historically supported cattle grazing during summer periods on the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Share The Road Campaign Started in Northern Nevada

In an effort to keep bicyclists safer on Nevada roads, the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has joined forces with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) in a SHARE THE ROAD campaign. They will be stepping up enforcement to ensure that motor vehicles are sharing the roads with the bicyclists and reducing the accidents between the two.

Spring is here which means Nevadans will be taking to the road to get some exercise and soak up some sun, so you will begin to see more people biking along the roads in Nevada.

South Lake Tahoe Man Arrested in Shooting

A shooting Wednesday in the Bijou area of South Lake Tahoe led to the arrest of 22 year old Angelo Anderson.

Police officers responded to multiple reports of a man discharging shots at a moving vehicle as it traveled on Fawn Way, which is located between Highway 50 and Glenwood Way.

A mid-day car crash on Monday led to the arrest of a couple out of San Mateo, CA on charges of hit and run, conspiracy to commit a crime, and transportation/sales of methamphetamine.

Suspect Sought In Elder Abuse of South Lake Tahoe 92 Year Old WWII Veteran

3:56 pm update - The suspect, James Michael Valero, was found walking in the area of Fourth and South Streets and arrested. Officers responded to a citizen's tip and they found Valero.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is seeking an arrest warrant for James Michael Valero on three felony counts and one misdemeanor count following an attack Tuesday night on a 92 year old World War II veteran.

High Speed Chase Starts in Carson City, Ends in South Lake Tahoe

A South Lake Tahoe woman is behind bars on felony charges of evading, assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license after leading officers from several different agencies on a high speed chase from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe on Sunday evening.

24 Arrested During Stateline New Year's Celebration

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department reports that the New Year's Eve party in the Stateline area went as expected, resulting in 24 arrests. The charges included assault, affray, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, minor consuming alcohol and civil protective custody. During the downtown party last year there were 14 arrests.

Stateline Prepares for New Year's Eve Celebrants

Three Arrested For String of West Slope Burglaries

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department retrieved hundreds of stolen items from a home in Georgetown after investigating a series of burglaries in the towns of Pollock Pines, Camino, Placerville and Georgetown. They arrested three residents of a home after conducting a search of a home following discovery of a stolen car.

Jeri Acuna, a 37 year old woman was arrested for possession of stolen property and a stolen vehicle, Ryann Jana Leidel, a 32 year old female was arrested for two outstanding felony warrants. Parolee Tommie Richard Stover was arrested on two other felony warrants.

Charges of Vehicular Manslaughter Filed Against Douglas County District Court Judge

Vehicular manslaughter charges were filed today by the Douglas County DA Mark Jackson against Judge Michael Gibbons. On August 20, 2013, cyclist Joseph Longo was killed in an accident near Pinenut and East Valley Roads in the Carson Valley. Charges state that Gibbons failed to exercise due care when overtaking or passing Longo who was traveling in the same direction. Gibbons is accused of failing to pass at a safe distance and not using due care to avoid a collision.

TRPA Approves the South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core Area Plan

The City of South Lake Tahoe's vision to recreate a community that encourages revitalizing commercial and residential areas got one step closer today with the TRPA's adoption of the South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core Area Plan. The area involved is the Highway 50 corridor from Fairway Ave at Bijou, up and down Ski Run Boulevard, and up to the Stateline.

Outdated development and pollution in the core of South Lake Tahoe could be on their way out with the adoption today of the City of South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core Area Plan by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board.

Fatal Accident on Highway 50 at Whitehall Canyon Saturday Night

11/12/13 10:45 am update: The California Highway Patrol just informed South Tahoe Now of more details of the Saturday collision on Hwy 50 over Echo Summitt near Whitehall. Emil Drouin, 58, of West Sacramento, was driving westbound in a white '89 Chevy S10. He collided with a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero driven by 51 year old Derick Nasario of Hayward, CA. Drouin's vehicle ended up in the American River, resulting in the death of the passenger who was Nasario's mother, 91 year old Josephine Drouin. The cause of the accident is suspected alcohol related and Mr.

Season Draws to a Close For Forest Service Road Accessibility and Firewood Permits

The last day to purchase a firewood permit from the U.S. Forest Service in Lake Tahoe will be on Friday, November 22. 2013 and the last day to cut wood will be Sunday, November 24. Fuelwood permits are $20 per cord with a 2 cord minimum and a limit of 10 cords per household.

El Dorado County Law Enforcement: Halloween Crackdown on Drunk Drivers

This Halloween, police, sheriff and CHP Officers in El Dorado County will crack down on drunk and drugged drivers throughout the region with an aggressive Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement effort. The Avoid the 6 DUI Task Force has given a fair warning to all partygoers: keep the party off the road.

“The scariest part of Halloween is not the spooky costumes and scary pranks, it’s the impaired drivers. All too often, partygoers don’t plan ahead and choose to drive impaired, but a costume can’t disguise drunk driving,” said Press Information Officer Dave Stevenson.

Eight Governors Commit to Having 3.3 Million Zero Emission Cars on Their Roads by 2025

Governors from eight states this week announced a groundbreaking initiative to put 3.3 million zero-emission vehicles on the roads in their states within a dozen years.

Grants Available for Projects to Clean up the El Dorado County Air

Projects that will provide significant motor vehicle emission reductions can now be funded through grants from the El Dorado County Air Quality Management District(AQMD). Air in the district does not meet the quality standards for ozone and PM2.5, which is the fine particle found in the air from vehicle emissions. Available for the years 2014 and 2015 is $726,000 in grant money from motor vehicle fees since the quality standard is not met in the district.

South Lake Tahoe Residents Arrested in Douglas County Burglary

Three South Lake Tahoe residents were arrested Friday and stolen property was recovered after law officers found them attempting to burglarize a home at the Valley Crest Estates in north Douglas County, authorities said.

Harrison Avenue Project and Final Adoption of Plastic Bag Ban Ordinance on Tuesday's City Council Agenda

Creating street improvements in the Harrison Avenue area sits atop the list of the City of South Lake Tahoe's Capital Improvement Project priorities. Better stormwater treatment, a bike path, lighting, safer pedestrian walkways and ADA improvements are coming to Harrison Avenue in 2014 and the city will vote Tuesday to ratify agreements between TRPA, the state and the city to move the project forward. The project is funded through several federal and local transportation fund sources.

CHP: Woman assaulted after traffic stop by man impersonating officer in Alpine County

5 PM UPDATE: Alpine County Undersheriff Rob Levy provides new information regarding an assault of a woman Sunday night near Hope Valley who was stopped by a vehicle occupied by a man impersonating a police officer.

Authorities are looking for a man, described as a white, stocky build, approximately 40 to 50 years of age, 6 feet, two inches in height, 225 pounds, with dark hair and a bushy mustache. The male may have sustained injuries.

Street Vibrations Bringing Motorcyclists to Area. 1 Killed, 4 Hurt in Tahoe and Carson Collisons

With thousands of motorcyclists expected for Street Vibrations there is extra caution urged on public roadways. As of noon today there have been 3 accidents involving bikers on the road in Lake Tahoe and Carson City, resulting in 1 death and 4 hospitalizations.

Two people were hospitalized after a crash shortly before 10 a.m. at North Carson Street and Medical Parkway. A man was flown by Care Flight to Renown hospital; the other person was taken by ambulance to Renown.

Agreement Paves Way For Eldorado Forest Trail Designations

A compromise agreement reached by conservation groups, off-roaders and three rural counties settles litigation going back to the 1990’s by resolving the status of contentious trails in Northern California’s Eldorado National Forest, according to documents posted today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). Under the agreement, some trails and dirt roads would reopen, others would remain closed and still others would begin restoration of past damage.
