Whittell Warriors win again; Take 15-1 record to the Northern Nevada Division IV playoffs

The Whittell Warriors Varsity Basketball Boys team wrapped up their regular season on Friday and Saturday, with two wins to earn another trip to the NIAA Division IV playoff bracket. When the brackets are announced, Whittell should be in the top spot with their 15-1 record.

Friday's game against then league leading Virginia City went all the Warrior's way as they won the game by a score of 57-43, putting an end to the Mucker's undefeated season.

On Saturday, Whittell traveled to the Carson Valley for a game against Sierra Luthern. The South Shore team won 51-32.

Whittell wins sixth straight; League record now 13-1

The defending Division 4 State Champion Whittell Warriors are beginning the final weekend of regular season action with an impressive record. Overall, they are 21-2 and in league play they are 13-1. Their only loss of the season is to league leading Virginia City.

On Thursday night Whittell won their sixth straight game by beating Sage Creek 70-13.

Every Warrior ended up on the score board led by Palmer Chaplin's 11 points. Three teammates had 10 points: Colin Buchholz, Bryce Bronken and Quinn Kixmiller. All of those players are juniors except senior Bronken.

Whittell High extends league record to 8-1 with win over Smith Valley

The Nevada State defending champs Whittell High School basketball team added one more win to the W column on Saturday with a win over Smith Valley. The Warriors' varsity team won the game 66-25.

The team from the South Shore has an overall record of 16-2 and hold a 9-1 Northern Nevada IV conference record.

There is one team from the north with a better record. Virginia City is undefeated at 9-0. They gave the Warriors their only loss on the season.

Defending state champ Whittell Warriors continuing winning ways

Palmer Chaplin's 25 points led the Whittell Warriors over Mineral County in prep basketball action on Saturday night. The Warriors scored in double digits each quarter, ending the game with a 59-36 victory.

Following Chaplin was Quinn Kixmiller with 17 and Bryce Bronken with 9.

Whittell's 7-0 league leading record (15-1 overall) is carrying them down the home stretch with remaining games against Virginia City (13-2) on January 23, Pyramid Lake (4-10) on January 27, Excel Christian (8-6) on January 30 and Smith Valley (2-15) on January 31.

Girls Basketball Round-Up - South Tahoe and Whittell High Schools

The South Tahoe Lady Vikings Varsity team currently has a 3-3 record in 1A Northern Nevada League action. They are coming off of a full week of basketball action.

On Friday, January 2, South Tahoe lost to Elko 52-33. Senior Ally King led all STHS scorers with 10, followed by Sophomore Drue Chapman's 9.

The girls had a win against Spring Creek 46-42 on Saturday, January 4. King and Chapman led scorers again with 17 and 16 respectively. They each had two 3 pointers each.

Defending state champ Whittell Warriors extend record to 13-1

With an overall record of 12-1 and a Northern Nevada IV league leading 5-0, the Whittell High School Varsity Basketball Team has taken off just as they did in their 2014 State Championship year.

The Whittell Warriors hosted Excel Christian action Saturday night. Whittell's 31 point second quarter sealed the deal as the South Shore team won, 81-51. Whittell was coming off a Friday night road victory where they beat Smith Valley 73-35.

Whittell High's Phil Bryant celebrates 705 coaching victories

It's not everyday that you see a high school coach reach the milestone of 700 coaching victories, but Whittell High School's Phil Bryant has done just that. The dual varsity basketball and football coach, Bryant led his basketball team to a win on December 11, making it the 700th time teams he was coaching had a victory.

Since that date, the Warriors have posted wins against Mammoth 72-44, Lee Vining 75-37, Loyalton 74-47, Pyramid Lake 50-46 and Coleville 73-22, bringing Bryant's victory count up to 705.

South Tahoe Girls Soccer Team goes for 4th State Title Saturday

This just may be the year of South Lake Tahoe girls soccer dominance. One week after the Whittell warriors won the state title for Division III schools, the Lady Vikings will try to win one of their own.

On Friday night, the South Tahoe High Varsity Girls beat the #1 seed from the South, Faith Lutheran by a score of 2-1. Junior Ashley Schouten scored both goals for STHS. Their nemesis from the North, Truckee, lost their match Friday against Sierra Vista High 1-0.

Whittell Girls Soccer Team #1 in State!

The Whittell Warriors Girls soccer team are now Nevada State Champs after they won the NIAA Division III Nevada State High School Tournament Saturdy in Zephyr Cove.

The Whittell girls beat the number two tournament seed, Incline High by a score of 3-1. This was the second time in school history the Whittell girls brought home the trophy.

Whittell High's girls soccer team goes for state title on Saturday

The Lady Warriors of Whittell High School played the first round of the State Soccer Championships just as they had the regular season, with dominance.

With a league leading record of 14-0 (and overall 17-1), the Whittell girls breezed into the final game by beating White Pine 5-0.

In the other playoff game at Whittell on Friday, Incline High beat North Tahoe with a score of 5 to 4.

The Warriors girls team will play Incline at noon on Saturday at Whittell High.

Whittell High football team celebrates Homecoming with win, record now 9-0

The Whittell Warriors celebrated Homecoming Thursday night with a win over Excel Christian our of Sparks, NV. Their record is now 9-0. The score isn't in yet and will be posted as soon as received.

Next game for the undefeated team from the South Shore October 30 against Virginia City. The home game will start at 7 p.m.

Prep roundup for Whittell and South Tahoe High Schools

The Whittell Warriors Varsity football team improved their record to 8-0 after a double overtime win over Mineral County on Friday night. The Warriors fell behind in the first quarter 22-8 and went into the locker room at half time trailing 44-22. At the end of regulation play the score was tied at 44 after Whittell came back with two touchdown passes by Colin Buchholtz late in the game. Max Primo's 6 yard rushing TD in overtime was followed by a pass by Buccholtz to Armando Rodgriquez for a touchdown put Whittell on the win column with a final score of 56-50.

At the end of the month, costumed revelers will descend upon the MontBleu nightclubs for the 36th Annual Freaker's Ball in South Lake Tahoe. Partiers will be attired in everything from wild, provocative and risque to funny, crazy and creative costumes.

South Tahoe Lady Vikings win cross town rivalry

The girl's varsity soccer team from South Tahoe High beat the Whittell Warriors on Saturday by a score of 6-0. Senior Ally King led all scorers with three goals, followed by Junior Ashlee Schouten's two and Alejandra Gutierrez, a junior, kicked in one. South Tahoe seniors Kendall Egan and Jordyn Dion each has assists.

Both teams are having big seasons. The Whittell girls are now 9-1 overall with 4-1 in league play and are in first place in Division III North. South Tahoe is now 10-2-1 overall and 7-0-1 in league and are in first place in the Northern Nevada 1A Soccer League.

South Tahoe loses at Spring Creek, Whittel beats Excel Christian

The Whittell Warriors have started their 2014 season much like they ended 2013, winning. The Varsity football team beat Excel Christian on Saturday by a score of 38-14, bringing their record to 2-0.

Senior Jake Sharp scored two touchdowns and carried the ball 14 times for a gain of 63 yards. Freshman Corey Huber scored once, ran for 109 yards on 13 carries. Huber also ran in an extra point and was on the receiving end of another.

High school sports kick off their first weekend in South Lake Tahoe

Are you ready for some football? Friday Night Lights are underway once again as the South Tahoe High Vikings take on the El Dorado Cougars on August 29. The JV game starts at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity starts at 7 p.m.

Viking Coach Kevin Hennessee has five seniors on his team, 24 juniors and two sophomores.

Both the Boy's and Girl's Cross County teams head to Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks for their meets.

On Saturday, the South Tahoe Girls Soccer teams take to the field. The Vikings host Montgomery in an 11 a.m. JV game and 1 p.m. Varsity match up.

American Legion and Gold Star Mom withdraw support from local event

American Legion Post 795 has withdrawn all support and endorsement of the Forever Dreams for Veterans program scheduled at MontBleu on September 6, 2014. Gold Star Mom, Patty Smith, mother of Sgt. Timothy M. Smith who was killed in action, has also rescinded all support. The Rose of Love ride from the Carson City Harley Davidson site to the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe has been cancelled.

Celebrities competing in the 25th American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe next week will be autographing golf bags for charity. Vessel and the ACC have teamed up to raise money by auctioning off the bags through online and text bidding.

The 25th Annual American Century Golf Championship which is played at South Lake Tahoe's Edgewood Tahoe is just 3 months away! This year's event takes place July 15 through July 20.

Discounted season pass tickets are now available for $50 which makes the daily ticket price just $8.33. The Lake Tahoe tournament is the No. 1 celebrity golf event in the country.

Whittell High School's Boys Basketball Team Wins Nevada State Title

The boys basketball team from Whittell High School claimed the Division IV Nevada State Title on Saturday night by beating Virginia City by a score of 53-48.

The Warriors beat Spring Mountain on Friday in a close game by the score of 53-50, getting them into the final round for their 4th game of the year against Virginia City.

KNBB televised the game live from the University of Nevada.

Whittell Warriors Basketball Team Beats Wells and Eureka; Title Game Saturday

2/23/14 update: League Champion Whittell lost to Virginia City on Saturday 62-49, bringing to a close their 23-4 season.

The Whittell Warriors Boys Basketball team is continuing their winning ways in the Northern Nevada Division IV playoffs. They beat Eureka on Thursday night by a score of 71-27 and beat Wells on Friday night, 53-41.

They will now meet Virginia City for the Championship game on Saturday at 2 pm at North Valleys High School in Reno. They beat Virginia City during the regular season on February 15 62-55.

Whittell High School's Boys Basketball Team Wins League Championship with 21-3 Record

The Whittell Warriors Boys Basketball team beat Virginia City by a score of 62-55 Saturday Night to become the Northern Nevada IV League Champions. The Warriors won their last 11 games, bringing their league record to 13-1 and the overall record to 21-3.

South Tahoe Girls Soccer Team is #1 in State

November 16, 2013: This just in: The South Tahoe High School girl's soccer team has won the Nevada State 1-A Championship! In Friday's first round action the Lady Vikings beat Faith Luthern by a score of 2-1 which brought them to today's championship round against Pahrump Valley. South Tahoe was victorious by a score of 3-2 and is crowned state champ.

High School Soccer Round-up for the South Shore

This was a full weekend for high school soccer on the south shore. The Whittell Warriors and South Tahoe Vikings boys and girls soccer teams all made a showing at regional soccer championships, resulting in one team headed to state.
