Year's First National Water Forecast Predicts Limited Supply in Lake Tahoe and Rest of West
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/16/2014 - 9:07amWASHINGTON, Jan. 15, 2014 – A limited water supply is predicted west of the Continental Divide, according to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) National Water and Climate Center (NWCC) in its first forecast of 2014. The NWCC also predicts normal water supply east of the Continental Divide and will continue to monitor, forecast and update water supplies for the next six months.
Funds to Improve Lake Tahoe Community Mobility and Economic Vitality Now Available

South Tahoe High Production of Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein Sure to be a Hit

Based on the 1974 movie, Mel Brooks added music and dance numbers to bring the play to a whole new level. "The kids have been working hard with long hours, and they're enjoying it," according to Liz "Niv" Niven, the school's theater director since 1997.

Kerry highlighted the path the city has been on over the last 12 years, from the years leading to the recession, what happened during the recession, and where the city is headed now that there is a net positive cash flow of over $1,000,000.

Holiday Pet Food Drive at Coldwell Banker Select in Zephyr Cove A Huge Success

Leading up to the 28th, close to 600 lbs of dog and cat food were donated to pets in need. In addition, many pet toys and other items were donated, on top of $170 in check donation.

South Lake Tahoe Welcomes First Baby Born in 2014
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/03/2014 - 5:42pmJoshua Tapia-Hernandez arrived a day late, giving him the honors of being the first baby born in 2014 at Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.
His parents are Adriana and Abraham Tapia of South Lake Tahoe and came into the world at six pounds, fourteen ounces and measured eighteen inches long.
Joshua was born at 5:24pm on Thursday. When mother Adriana arrived at the hospital in the early afternoon, she was very calm. She said her calmness even amazed her physician, Dr. Spielvogel, who was surprised how quickly the baby was born.

Free Bus Rides in South Lake Tahoe Until January 5

Tahoe Transportation District is offering the free rides to keep cars off the road during the higher traffic holiday season and to show riders how they can help the South Lake Tahoe air quality and to see how convenient, comfortable and affordable the bus system is.

It was just a few short years ago, in the midst of the Great Recession, both public agencies and private companies throughout the basin were in the middle of layoffs, service reductions and unemployment hovering above 17%. Concerns regarding economic recovery were significant. Rather than buckling under, we buckled down, got things done and prepared for recovery.

A Time of Giving: Moose Lodge Leads Effort to Help Out 20 South Lake Tahoe Families

During the past week, students at Bijou Community School decorated the boxes which held the food donations.
In order to help the families, who are part of the Family Resource Center, Moose Lodge member Robbie Koth conducted a donation drive in the community. He raised enough to donate a large ham and food supplies to each family.
South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial Tree Decorated for the Season

The memorial, located on the corner of Highway 50 and Wildwood Avenue, got a holiday makeover. Not only was the area decorated for the Christmas but there was a stocking placed at the site in memory for each local child who is memorialized there.
Organizers don't want any child to ever be forgotten nor do they want them to be without their own Christmas stocking for a little something from Santa.

Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority’s Drive and Drop for Christmas Cheer

Bins for Christmas Cheer will be available in front of the LTVA California location at 3066 Highway 50 across from Rojo's and Snowflake Drive-In through December 14 from 9 am to 5 pm.
Christmas Cheer feeds over 400 families regularly, all year long, and the need for wholesome meals is even more important to those with children who are out of school at the holidays. For more information call 530-541-5255

The Theatre Department at Lake Tahoe Community College is seeking children and adults to cast in the award-winning play “Still Life With Iris” by Steven Dietz. Auditions will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Duke Theatre. Performances will be March 14-23, 2014.

High-flying adventure flicks and non-stop entertainment between films will arrive in Tahoe fashion Saturday, Dec. 14 with the 12th Annual Tahoe Adventure Film Festival.
Rooted as the nerve center for elite skiers, boarders, climbers and year-round adventurers, the film festival provides plenty of mountaintops, cliffhangers and enough high-energy entertainment between showings to ignite fervor for the New Year.
Incline Village Resident Wins Trip to Super Bowl

Megan Kasden spoke through tears this week when she answered the phone and found out she had won the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund Super Bowl raffle. The prize is an all-expense paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVIII at the Met Life Stadium. The raffle raised $30,000 for traumatic brain injury research and programs and services for cancer patients and families at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. The same center where Kasden’s husband, Gary had just completed a long series of chemotherapy treatments.
