Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Seven arrested during New Year's celebrations at Stateline

STATELINE, Nev. - An estimated crowd of 5,000 to 6,000 people gathered at Stateline to ring in the new year Monday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

They said arrests and calls for service were down from previous years. According to DCSO Sgt Ron Elges. He said they arrested seven people for criminal crimes including DUI and Battery on a Police Officer. Two people were taken in for Civil Protective Custody due to being unable to care for themselves and two persons were medically transported for medical needs due to excessive alcohol use. There were also multiple citations for trespassing and simple batteries.

Highway 50 closed through Stateline for 35 minutes from about 11:55 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The crowd was at its height right at midnight.

Two decades ago there would be dozens of arrests of revelers and the highway would have been closed for two hours, but those numbers have been decreasing over the years. Prior to the SnowGlobe Music Festival coming to South Lake Tahoe and the addition of New Year's festivities at the Heavenly Village the crowds at Stateline numbered closer to 50,000.

In the Carson Valley there were four arrests for Resisting a Police Officer, Battery, Probation Violation, and Trespassing. One person was detained for Civil Protective Custody and released when sober.
