Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/14/2021 - 11:00amDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - On Sunday, January 3, 2021, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to the area north of the Cradlebaugh Bridge on Highway 395 after receiving a report of a dead body.
The responding deputies found a decomposed human body. After a three-week investigation, the body has been determined to be that of Claude Randall Withrow, a 61-year-old male from Carson City. Withrow’s cause of death is still under investigation at this time and no other information is available.

On December 19, 2020, Jason Kaspian was found deceased due to a suspected overdose from an opioid-based substance in his Vista Grande Drive apartment. An investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) into Kaspian's death lead them to the person they believe sold him the controlled substance.
Small New Year's Eve crowds at Stateline keep US50 open
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/01/2021 - 7:01pmSTATELINE, Nev. - It was a much quieter holiday at Stateline this year with a decrease in calls for service, five arrests, and the lowest number of New Year's celebrants in a few decades.
US 50, the highway that runs from South Lake Tahoe into Stateline was not closed due the low number of people in the area. Law enforcement was able to keep those wanting to bring in the new year outside to the sidewalk or they stayed inside the casinos.
"The celebrants were well behaved and embraced the New Year’s Eve celebration," said Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office warns of telephone scam
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/30/2020 - 7:18pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) has received two reports in the past 24 hours from citizens who were contacted by telephone from someone claiming to be a DCSO deputy or sergeant. The caller uses the name and rank of an actual DCSO employee. One of the citizens said her caller ID showed the call was coming from a DCSO business line.
According to their reports, the person claiming to be a DCSO employee tells the citizen they owe money for a fine or warrant and tells the citizen to transfer money the caller via an online app or they will be arrested.
Law enforcement prepares for possible New Year's Eve crowds on South Shore

With no SnowGlobe this year due to the pandemic, and Heavenly Village New Year's Eve activities canceled, it is unknown as to what will take place in an area that at one time saw 50,000 people in the streets to bring in the new year. Last year it was estimated 7,000 to 8,000 people took to the streets at midnight at Stateline and 6,500 at Heavenly Village for its 9:00 p.m. fireworks.

Transient arrested on charges of homicide after woman found deceased in tent near Home Depot

On Friday, November 6 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) dispatch received a 911 call about a dead body in a tent located just east of the Home Depot store.
Shots fired at Stateline home during large party

At this time not much information has been released and the matter is under investigation.
DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges did say that several shots were fired but there were no injuries and nobody was hit by bullets. He said the home where the party was on Tina Court.
There is no verification that the incident was at a vacation home rental. There have been no arrests at this time, Elges said.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrests three found with drugs, cash and a weapon
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/22/2020 - 9:35pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) arrested three Reno residents after they were pulled over on suspicion of a speeding violation.
On October 22 at approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies on US395 stopped a vehicle for the violation. When they contacted the occupants they said they smelled the strong odor of marijuana from inside the car.
A field narcotics investigation was conducted and deputies said they recovered approximately eight pounds of marijuana, 627 grams of concentrated THC, just under $2,000 in US Currency and a Glock-19 handgun.

New Jersey man's body found in Lake Tahoe seven weeks after boat washed ashore

Ryan Normoyle, 29, had rented a boat from the Ski Run Boat Company on August 10, 2020. That night, the boat washed ashore in Glenbrook, Nevada but Ryan was not with the boat.
Two victims and two suspects in Stateline stabbing

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to a report of a stabbing outside of Harrah's Tahoe at 10:56 p.m. Once at the scene they were flagged down by bystanders who saw two suspects run through the casino's parking lot. Deputies and South Lake Tahoe police officers created a perimeter around the area including the alley at MontBleu, Lake Parkway and the forested areas behind the casino including Van Sickle Bi-State Park.
Man arrested after allegedly stealing vehicle in South Lake Tahoe, leading chase into Nevada
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/21/2020 - 9:34amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A car being warmed up in the driveway of a Tahoe Sierra home in South Lake Tahoe was stolen at approximately 6:40 a.m. Monday, September 21, and the alleged thief led law enforcement on a chase that ended near Marla Bay in Nevada.
As soon as the call of the stolen car was dispatched, Officer Jason Nixon of the South Lake Tahoe Department (SLTPD) spotted the vehicle, a Lincoln Navigator, and started pursuit. He was joined by other officers and the chase went into Nevada and Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) joined in near Kahle Drive.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office and CoCoMoes raise $8,849 for Special Olympics

They raised $8,849 to help benefit the Douglas County Special Olympics chapter.
“We want to thank CoCoMoes for going above and beyond to provide the take-out option at this year’s event,” said Scott Turek of Special Olympics Nevada. “This option allowed us to still host the event with COVID restrictions in place and the athletes were able to pair with DCSO to provide a safe and fun event.
Suspect arrested after allegedly hitting Douglas County deputy with motorcycle in sandpits
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/01/2020 - 1:59pmSeptember 2 update: Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) have arrested 20-year-old Dakota Lowden as the suspect in yesterday's case at the sandpits in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
With help from the community, Lowden was located and arrested on Townhouse Circle in Douglas County. He has been charged with Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting/Obstructing and Reckless driving. The deputy he hit had minor injuries.
Lowden was booked into the Douglas County Jail and his bail is currently set at $26,380.
Body of Gilroy man located in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/27/2020 - 8:57am4:30 p.m. UPDTE: The body of the missing Gilroy man was located this afternoon in 117 feet of water off the shore of Lake Tahoe.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's dive team with their remote operating vehicle (ROV) found 25-year-old Ian Morlang. He was brought up to the surface and placed on the South Lake Tahoe Police Marine 1 boat, then taken to the Tahoe Keys Marina.
Police officers draped a flag on Morlang as he was carried into a waiting vehicle.
Next of kin has been notified.
The coroner transported the body to the morgue in Placerville.
Watsonville cop arrested on suspicion of battery and damage charges in Stateline

Tyler Leroy Stephens, a new officer for the Watsonville department, is currently in the El Dorado County Jail awaiting extradition to Douglas County on counts that include battery and destruction of property.

They are illegal around the lake and in neighboring counties. A mild winter and a large amount of forest fuels put the area at a high risk of fire this summer, and fireworks could be devastating.
Without the official fireworks shows at the north and south ends of the lake, many fear people will resort to the fireworks bought at roadside stands and Indian reservations. While those are legal in the areas they are sold, they are not legal at Lake Tahoe.
Multiple agencies respond to missing child at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe

The child's mother had checked into the hotel on Tuesday with her two teenage sons and her daughter. She left the room at 8:00 a.m. to attend a conference being held at the hotel and left the kids sleeping. When she returned at 10:00 a.m. she found the two teens still asleep but her daughter was missing.
Douglas County authorities ask for public's help in locating felony domestic battery suspect

They are asking for the public's assistance in locating the suspect, 27-year-old Ryan Manuella.
Manuella is known to have family, friends, and/or associates in the states of California, Texas and New York, although at this time he may be anywhere in the United States according to DCSO.
If arrested, the bail requested on Manuella is $100,000.
Four arrested after five-month long drug investigation in Douglas County
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/29/2020 - 3:42pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A five-month-long investigation into the alleged methamphetamine distribution activities of a Gardnerville resident led to an early morning execution of a search warrant at the Helman Drive home of Melissa White on Friday, May 29. Arrested were White and three others, John Neese, Mark Gregg, and Lori Wright.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) says approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine was purchased from White during undercover operations and another 55.3 grams was found in the home Friday. Also located were several tabs of suspected LSD.
Pair arrested on suspicion of breaking into cars at Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley trailheads

Between May 16 and May 23, 2020, the two suspects, Carolyn Brinkman and Harvis Berry, allegedly broke into cars, stealing cash and credit cards, then using the credit cards immediately at local stores, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).
Neither the name of the stores or trailheads have been disclosed.

On Thursday, May 14, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a home on Bonnie Court in Stateline after a five-month-long investigation. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Street Enforcement Team has been looking into the methamphetamine trafficking activities of Joseph Cudia, a 45-year-old male from Sacramento and Diego Coralles, a 47-year-old male from South Lake Tahoe.
Three near-fatal overdoses in Douglas County - Counterfeit Percocet pills with fentanyl

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) warned the public two months ago regarding the counterfeit Percocet pills with fentanyl being sold in the area.

Man who was arrested with stolen vehicle in Douglas County allegedly posed as FBI agent

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), Fabian Campos drove that car into Carson City where the Carson City Sheriff’s Office spotted the suspected stolen vehicle and a pursuit ensued on US395. DCSO took over when it crossed the county line.

On May 1, at 11:45 a.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) located a red Audi two-door vehicle stolen out of California and attempted to pull it over. The driver failed to stop and led CCSO on a chase into Douglas County.
They requested assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) who then took over the pursuit.
Dispute at Lake Tahoe construction site; One transported via Cal Star, other by ambulance
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/30/2020 - 9:11am5.1.20 UPDATE: In the morning hours of April 30, 2020, a group of construction workers were involved in a physical altercation at their job site at the new Tahoe Beach Club at the end of Kahle Drive. During the physical fight, a knife was produced and one male sustained major knife inflicted injuries to his head/face and he was transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno via Cal Star.
Another male suffered minor non-life threatening injuries and he was transported to Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Gardnerville man fatally shot was attempting a home invasion

Joshua McCarthy, 36, was reportedly involved in a physical confrontation with a homeowner in the 1400 block of Bumblebee Drive while attempting a home invasion, during which the homeowner shot McCarthy, according to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office news release.
McCarthy was not known to the homeowner.
Fatal shooting in Douglas County under investigation

At 9:31 p.m. on March 21, 2020, DCSO deputies responded to a report of gunshots in the area of the 1400 block of Bumblee Drive. When they arrived they found a deceased male, a victim of gunshot wounds.
Deputies located, detained and interviewed all parties they believed to be involved.

They are investigating a theft case in which the suspect pictured above allegedly stole the victim's wallet, removed large amounts of cash and disposed of the wallet in a casino restroom. DSCO says the suspect left the casino property in a white vehicle similar to a Subaru wagon.
Truck heading to South Lake Tahoe catches fire, causes explosions

Crews from the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded. The driver of the truck disconnected the cab from the trailer and TDFPD was able to suppress the fire before it spread.

Credit card stolen from South Lake Tahoe vehicle used in Douglas County
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/11/2020 - 11:54pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two people are wanting for questioning after they attempted to purchase hundreds of dollars' worth of merchandise with a stolen credit card.
In the early morning hours of January 22, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) says an unidentified man and woman entered the Walmart on Topsy Lane in Douglas County. They left the store when the purchase could not be approved.
The credit card was reported stolen from a vehicle burglary in South Lake Tahoe. DCSO says the suspects may have ties to the Lake Tahoe area.

Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/03/2020 - 2:59pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is asking for the public assistance with attempting to identify the suspect in the theft of a wallet and fraudulent use of a credit card in the North Douglas County area.
The suspect used the victim’s credit card at local retail locations including Target and Home Depot.

Thousands in South Lake Tahoe and Stateline for New Year's Eve celebrations

At Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe, a season-long celebration concluded with a New Year's Eve celebration attended by an estimated 6,500 people. The festivities included a 9:00 p.m. fireworks show on the gondola, concerts and special activities all day long.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/19/2019 - 5:31pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) recently concluded a month-long fundraiser to raise money for the Suicide Prevention Network (SPN).
#NoShaveNovember raised just over $3,672 for the nonprofit that provides families and individuals with support and education within the community.
Involved with the judging was Trish Hamilton who lost her son Dalton Warswick to suicide in September of this year. Dalton had attended both Whittell and Douglas High Schools.

Deputy Steven Schultz was promoted to the rank of Investigator. He has more than 36 years of law enforcement experience in both California and Nevada.
