Short and quiet New Year's Eve celebration at Stateline

The celebratory crowd at Stateline was once again a small crowd, estimated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to be between 5,000-10,000. The road through the casino corridor didn't have to close until 11:58 p.m.

DCSO reports that New Year' Eve operations went as planned, with help from Nevada Highway Patrol, Nevada Division of Investigation, Douglas County Sheriff Search and Rescue, Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Douglas County Communications Center, Nevada Department of Transportation and Cal-Trans.

The Nevada side of U.S. Highway 50 was cleared of celebrants at approximately 12:20 am and was reopened to vehicle traffic after the crowd peacefully moved off the roadway.

Before the Snow Globe music festival came to South Lake Tahoe, crowds were seen up to and estimated 50,000 and the road was closed by 10:00 p.m. The South Shore also has added a 9:00 p.m. fireworks and New Year's celebration at Heavenly Village.

18 people were arrested in the casino core area of Stateline, Nevada during the evening. Charges included DUI, battery on an officer, domestic battery, trespassing, intoxicated pedestrian, minor consuming alcohol and possession of a controlled substance.

The Minden-Gardnerville area reported a similarly quiet evening; with 3 people arrested for DUI, domestic battery, and minor consuming.

The El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe had 14 new occupants between December 31 and the morning of January 1. They include five arrested for DUI for alcohol or drugs, three for disorderly conduct while being under the influence, and two for domestic battery.
