Arrest made in connection with overdose death of Douglas County resident

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A three-week long investigation into the death of a 35-year old Gardnerville man has led to the arrest of Brittany Miller of Dayton, Nev.

On December 19, 2020, Jason Kaspian was found deceased due to a suspected overdose from an opioid-based substance in his Vista Grande Drive apartment. An investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) into Kaspian's death lead them to the person they believe sold him the controlled substance.

During the course of the investigation into Kaspian’s death, DCSO said they discovered that Brittany Miller, 25, allegedly sold an opiate-based substance to Kaspian. In a press release, DCSO said they believe the evidence indicates the victim died of an overdose from the controlled substance that Miller allegedly made available to him.

Miller was arrested on January 6, 2021 during the execution of a search warrant at her Dayton residence. Criminal charges on Miller are being reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution pending toxicology and autopsy results. At that time they will be able to verify what that substance was.

The suspect could face charges of Open Murder and Sales of a Controlled Substance. Miller is currently being held without bail pending her initial court appearance in Douglas County.

According to Nevada State law, Nevada Law states if someone illegally sells or makes available a controlled substance to another person whose death is the proximate result of that controlled substance, that person who provided the controlled substance to the victim may be found guilty of murder.

"Anyone selling opioids or any other controlled substance in Douglas County will be aggressively pursued by the Sheriff’s Office," said DCSO Sheriff Coverley in the press release. He said he wants the public to know trafficking and abuse of opioids is a serious and deadly problem nationwide and Douglas County is no exception.
