LTCC speaker series: Exercise: A Potent Medicine?

Event Date:
January 27, 2016 - 6:00pm

Lake Tahoe Community College faculty member Dr. Walter Morris will give a talk on what science has revealed about exercise during the school's next featured lecture, “Exercise: A Potent Medicine?” on Wednesday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Board/Aspen room.

Dr. Walter Morris's talk will focus on the science behind determining what kind of exercise is needed to achieve and maintain optimal health. He will explore the evidence from recent studies showing how exercise can be just as effective as many prescription drugs in treating some of the leading causes of illness and death in the United States.

As a full-time faculty member at LTCC since 1999, Dr. Morris has taught exercise physiology, sports nutrition, exercise program design, plyometrics, basketball, and other classes in the Physical Education Department. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Education and Health in 2004 from the University of New Mexico. He earned his Master’s degree at the University of Oregon, and his Bachelor’s at Pomona-Pitzer College, where he played basketball under then-head coach Gregg Popovich, one of the winningest NBA coaches of all time for the San Antonio Spurs.

This is a free event, and the entire community is welcome to attend.

The LTCC Foundation’s Speaker Spotlight Series brings faculty and academic experts from LTCC and other colleges and universities to South Lake Tahoe to share their knowledge and experiences with local students, and to encourage youth to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology and math. The Speaker Spotlight Series is made possible by a generous donation from community members Bob and Cathy Cliff.
