Maddie Bowman wins third straight gold medal at X Games

South Lake Tahoe's Maddie Bowman won her third straight gold medal Wednesday in the 2015 Women's Ski SuperPipe final at the X Games in Aspen.

She started off day one of the annual five day event with solid runs of 85.00, 78.00 and 85.66. The silver went to Ayana Onozuka (83.33) and a bronze to Brita Sigourney (78.66).

Bowman, who grew up on the slopes of Sierra-at-Tahoe, tied the late Sarah Burke's three straight X Game golds.

Maddie, a STHS graduate who won gold in the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi, had knee surgery in May. She did rehab at the USSA Center of Excellence and attended college at Westminster College in Salt Lake City during the off season.

Three other South Lake Tahoe athletes will be skiing and snowboarding at the X Games. Hannah Teter will compete in the Snowboard SuperPipe and Special Olympics Dual Slalom, Elena Hight will compete in women’s Snowboard SuperPipe event, in which she has five medals. Jamie Anderson will be competing in the Snowboard SlopeStyle.

The 2015 X Games in Aspen run through Sunday, January 25.
