Lake Tahoe athletes on U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The United States Ski and Snowboard teams have been announced for this season and several local faces once again, including South Lake Tahoe Olympians Maddie Bowman and Jamie Anderson, are on that list.

Maddie Bowman, a South Tahoe High grad, has won an Olympic gold medal and seven X Games medals. She burst onto the ski halfpipe scene in 2012, and into the history books two years later by winning the first Olympic gold medal in women’s halfpipe skiing. She has now been on the Pro Halfpipe-Freeskiing team for seven years.

Olympian Jamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe is again part of the U.S. Pro Slopestyle-Snowboarding team. She has been collecting snowboard accolades since she first made turns at Sierra-at-Tahoe at the age of nine. She started on the USASA circuit and was picking up endorsements by the age of 10 and Jamie is now the most decorated slopestyle snowboarder in X Games history and a three time Olympic medalist.

Freeskier and Olympic gold medalist David Wise also has a spot on the team for the seventh year. He has been on the top of the halfpipe podium since early 2011, with a trophy case that includes the inaugural Olympic gold medal in men's ski halfpipe and a matching gold medal in halfpipe from the 2018 Games. He was in South Lake Tahoe earlier this year with his family and shared his children's book with local students.

Alpine skier Travis Ganong of Squaw Valley has been on the U.S. team for 13 years. He is the 2015 World Championships silver medalist. He started his career in the Mighty Mites peewee program as a tyke at Squaw.

Nate Holland of Squaw Valley is on the U.S. SBX Snowboarding team, a spot he's had for 14 years. He has eight X Games gold medals and two World Championship medals.

Karly Shorr of Truckee joins Jamie Anderson on the U.S. Pro Slopestyle-Snowboarding team. She was a member the 2014 U.S. Olympic slopestyle team and is planning on a big 2019 after out of the 2018 Olympic season due to injury.

Hannah Teter is now a member of the Snowboard Alumni team. The South Lake Tahoe residents is an Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist in the snowboard halfpipe and a three-time Olympian, seven-time X Games medalist.

Lila Lapanja of Incline Village is a member of the Alpine World Cup squad. She represents the USA as a member of Team CLIF Bar Ski Racing.

Up and coming skiers on the international scene are AJ Hurt of Carnelian Bay and Bryce Bennett of Squaw Valley on the Alpine B Team and Keely Cashman of Strawberry on the D Team.
