STAR donates to South Lake Tahoe non-profits this winter

The South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts (STAR) gave a total of $15,000 to three area non-profits this holiday season to feed families as well as secure essential upgrades to community centers/programs.

STAR gifted $5,000 to Christmas Cheer All Year’s Food for Families, which resulted in $11,400 worth of fresh food from Raleys supermarket. Through this initiative Raleys was able to purchase items at wholesale while selecting various items that were in more demand. For every $1 donated to Christmas Cheer results in more than $2 worth of food.

Live Violence Free received $5,000 from STAR and allowed the organization to purchase large appliances needed for their shelter homes. Items included an energy efficient refrigerator, stove, counter tops, and flat screen TVs (which helped gain addition square footage by giving away very old and large TVs). Furthermore, funds will help support a Yoga program for trauma related symptoms.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services was also provided $5,000 to secure new computers and updated software for their offices. Tech Tastics, a local IT company, was hired to overhaul the outdated sluggish systems. Tech Tastics obtained devices at non-profit rates, which leveraged their investment while increasing productivity at TY&FS offices.

STAR is comprised of Edgewood Companies, Harrah’s Tahoe, Harveys Resort Hotel and Casino, Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, Lakeside Inn and Casino, MontBleu Casino Resort and Vail Resorts. The companies work collaboratively together on community economic and sustainability issues, which includes a charity giving component.
