South Lake Tahoe nonprofits benefit from STAR; $15,000 given away

The South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts (STAR) donated $15,000 this holiday season to three community organizations, with Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Christmas Cheer, and Live Violence Free each receiving $5,000.

STAR is comprised of Edgewood Companies, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, Harrah’s/Harveys Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, Lakeside Inn and Casino, MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, and Vail Resorts. The companies work collaboratively on community economic and sustainability issues, including a charity component.

The three recipients:

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, which offers programs and services to South Lake Tahoe area youth, purchased new equipment and technology upgrades with the donation.

Christmas Cheer will use the funds to help keep its South Lake Tahoe pantry stocked with food, especially during periods of peak demand. The organization distributes food to residents monthly.

Live Violence Free is committed to education and advocacy addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and basic needs. STAR’s donation will support client service improvements.
