Auditions for Man of La Mancha at LTCC’s Duke Theatre

Event Date:
February 3, 2014 - 7:00pm

The Lake Tahoe Community College Theater Arts Department will hold auditions for the Tony Award-winning musical Man of La Mancha on Monday, February 3 at 7 p.m. in the Duke Theatre. Callbacks will be Saturday, February 8 at 12:30 p.m.

The book for this popular musical was written by Dale Wasserman, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion. LTCC’s production will be directed by Susan Boulanger, with musical direction by Dr. Mark D. Williams and choreography by Angela Smith.

Selected to help celebrate LTCC’s 40th anniversary this year, this five-time Tony Award-winning musical (including a Tony for Best Musical) is a remarkable show and one of the great theatre successes of the Broadway stage. Based on Miguel de Cervantes' epic novel Don Quixote, this play-within-a-play is set in Spain at the end of the 16th century and tells the tale of the 'mad' knight, Don Quixote, and his trusty manservant, Sancho Panza. With a humorous and poignant script, colorful characters and glorious songs, including the classic “The Impossible Dream,” Man of La Mancha is one of the great musicals of the American theatre.

For its production, LTCC will be casting men and women of various ages and types. All of the roles are open, except for the role of Don Quixote. Actors are required to sing. Audition material and information can be found at www.singingvoice.net/williams/lamancha/, as well as at the Theatre Department callboard and on the department’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LTCCTheatreArts). A short dance audition will follow the vocal audition. Rehearsals will be held Mondays through Thursdays beginning April 7. Performances are June 13 to June 22.
