Soup and salad bar opens in South Lake Tahoe

It took several more months than planned, but Soup Tahoe is now open on the South Shore.

In September, South Tahoe Now announced that SUP Tahoe would be converted into Soup Tahoe during the non-summer months where stand up paddling isn't as popular.

"There were many more regulations than we first figured into our business plan," said owner Eddie Smith of the delay in opening. Smith and his wife, Kimberly, got the doors opened to Soup Tahoe last week.

Located at the Y, adjacent to South Shore Bikes, Soup Tahoe will be opened seven months of the year. "I don't think the Health Department would appreciate our serving soup with the paddle board business going on too," said Eddie Smith.

For those who are Vegan or have Gluten allergies, this stop has something that can be grabbed on the go. They have a help-your-self style soup and salad bar as well as sandwiches and dessert treats. The seating inside allows one to capture the sunshine that streams in the large front windows. They also have pint sized seating.

Soups are $4.99 for a cup, $6.99 for a bowl and $9.99 for 32 oz. The salad bar is $9.99/lb and features mixed greens, arugula, broccoli, eggs, carrots, beets and a lot more including four homemade dressings to choose from. Sandwiches include Jalapeno Popper with Bacon, Arty Party Veggie, Almond Butter and Strawberry Jelly, and Sausage with Pesto. Soup Tahoe also has Bella Bucha Kombucha on draft.

Eddie moved to South Lake Tahoe 20 years ago and has been a firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service for the past 14 years. He is entering his fifth season as a smoke jumper based out of Missoula, MT.

Their hours to start will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily but the Smiths expect these to be extended once business picks up. Their phone number is (760)920-3551 (this is their cell phone).
