March 5, 2014 - 1:00pm
The public is encouraged to come to Barton Memorial Hospital and celebrate Patient Safety Awareness Week with Barton Health. On Wednesday, March 5, Dr. Clint Purvance, Barton’s Chief Medical Officer, will recognize our successes, lessons learned, and commitment to our patients while creating patient safety awareness. Barton staff will announce the Patient Safety poster contest winner. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. in the Snowflake Lobby at Barton Hospital.
Orchestrated annually by the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), this year’s Patient Safety Awareness Week runs from March 2 to 8. The goal of this week is to increase awareness of Barton’s patient safety activities and develop lasting partnerships with the community, patients, and staff. This year’s Safety Week theme, Navigate Your Health Safely, highlights the need for health care providers to ensure that patients are more engaged in the health care process, whether visiting the doctor for a routine exam or entering the hospital for surgery.
Recently, the California Hospital Engagement Network (CALHEN) recognized Barton Memorial Hospital as a mentor hospital in patient safety. Comparing 174 other California hospitals in ten clinical areas of improvement, Barton showed a 73% improvement in patient safety from 2010 to present.
“Barton is committed to maintaining our culture of safety for our patients,” says Barton’s Chief Medical Officer Clint Purvance, MD. “Historically, the American healthcare delivery system has been fragmented and without great coordination which has caused unintentional patient harm. This has led to a national movement to improve our systems of care delivery to ensure that patient safety is a priority. While we have much to be proud of at Barton Health in leading our state in improving the safe care we deliver, it is only the beginning of a long journey of reengineering safe systems of care for the patients we serve.”
Barton understands that patients have a choice where they receive their care and has made significant investments in patient safety, quality of care, and patient satisfaction. Come celebrate patient safety with Barton on March 5.
