Tahoe is a wonderland. Every season creates not only beautiful landscapes, but also new opportunities to get outside and play. For those of us that enjoy playing in the outdoors there are some simple practices we can all engage in to spread cheer all year and everywhere.

Investigation leads to return of custom bar top to brewery in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Finding a truck with stolen license plates on Tuesday has led to the recovery of a custom made bar top from a South Lake Tahoe brewery.

On June 30, 2020, deputies from El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) got an LPR (License Plate Reader) hit on a truck in Meyers.

The truck was traveling west on US50 and deputies found the truck near Ice House Road and attempted a traffic stop. The driver turned onto a rocky dirt road, stopped by the American River and took off on foot.

Two arrested after pursuit in Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - For the second time in as many days, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was involved in a vehicle pursuit.

On May 2, 2020, at 3:10 p.m. DCSO patrol deputies attempted to stop a motor vehicle with fictitious license plates in the area of Waterloo Lane and Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

Volunteer mapping of invasive plants along Upper Truckee River completed

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A three-year effort to survey the Upper Truckee River for aquatic invasive plants has wrapped up. Community members, supported by staff from the League to Save Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Resource Conservation District, and California State Parks joined together to map the plants in order to prevent their spread during major upcoming restoration projects along the river, Lake Tahoe’s largest tributary.

Pair wanted in Douglas County arrested on burglary and drug charges in Utah

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two people suspected of burglarizing a home in Gardnerville and stealing a vehicle on July 31 have been arrested in Utah.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) announced the arrest of Jackie Coughran, of Medford, Oregon, and the passenger, Donell Jordon, of Salt Lake City on August 7 in Hurricane, Utah, which is just north of the Arizona border.

High speed pursuit ends in Carson City with suspect dead

A high speed pursuit on U.S. Highway 50 East through Lyon County ended when the suspect vehicle left the roadway near Flint and Highway 50 in Carson City. The suspect reportedly had a gunshot wound to the head when he was found by law enforcement officers and died at the scene.

The vehicle was a white Dodge Durango rental vehicle with California license plates. The vehicle pursuit, according to police scanner monitors, reportedly started at USA Parkway, then into Dayton and Mound House, exceeding speeds of 100 mph. No officers were injured.

Reno man missing after he leaves town for Victorville, California

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are looking for information that would help locate a 60-year-old man who has been missing for more than a week.

Thomas Arthur Kraft was last seen in Reno on February 3, 2018. On that date, Kraft told a roommate that he was driving to Victorville, California to attend the funeral of a family member. He has not been seen since and was reported missing by his roommate on February 7.

Kraft was driving a 2016 Dark Grey Jeep Compass with paper license plates 1175960 NV.

Elderly man battered by unknown suspects at Gardnerville Walgreens

Two suspects are being sought for battering an 89-year-old man at Walgreen's in Gardnerville on Christmas Eve at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The suspects were driving a black Dodge pickup truck with unknown license plates. One of the suspects is described as a Causasian male 20-30 years old with a beard.

The elderly victim initially declined to report the incident but recently came forward and is working with Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) to find the pair.

DCSO has information that a female filmed the incident on a cell phone.

Thieves make off with high-end bikes from Carson City Off-Road event

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is requesting the public’s help in identifying suspects responsible for the theft of several high dollar mountain bikes from participants of the Carson City Off-Road event held this weekend.

Three suspects were observed on a surveillance video at 900 South Carson Street in a gray Ford Expedition with California license plates. The suspects cut the locks to the mountain bikes and loaded them into the Ford Expedition.

California Tahoe Conservancy gives over $400k to West Shore forest health

LAKE TAHOE - The California Tahoe Conservancy Board today authorized $414,074 to the California Department of Parks and Recreation for projects that improve forest health and reduce the risk of wildfire at Tahoe State Recreation Area and Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. The funding is the first allocation of more than $6.8 million in Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act funds awarded to the Conservancy at last year’s Presidential Summit.

Lake Tahoe license plate program trying new ideas to spur sales

The Lake Tahoe license plate has been around for 25 years in California, one of 12 special interest plates people can choose from when registering their vehicles.

Funds collected from sales are allocated to the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) who is required to support “preservation and restoration projects in the Lake Tahoe area” and for “establishing and improving trails, pathways, and public access for nonmotorized traffic.”

Safety tips for Lake Tahoe holiday and winter travel

Nevada's Department of Transportation, Highway Patrol, City of South Lake Tahoe and Caltrans all had words of advice for travelers this holiday weekend. Roads will be full of cars, and the added threat of high winds and a snow storm will create issues for those not prepared on the road.

"Plates for Powder" is back: Buy a Tahoe license plate and ski for free

The popular “Plates for Powder” program and offers skiers and boarders two free lift tickets at one of ten resorts in Lake Tahoe if they purchase the new Lake Tahoe license plate in either California or Nevada.

UPDATE: Amber Alert canceled for two Douglas County children

10:00 p.m. Update: The children have been located safe, and have been returned to Douglas County unharmed. They are with their custodial grandparents after being returned by a friend. The suspects are still outstanding.

Two children were taken from their grandparent's home Monday afternoon by their non-custodial father and an Amber Alert has been issued.

Dason Valdez, 29, allegedly entered his parent's residence in northern Douglas County at 5:11 p.m. and physically removed his children, ages 2 and 4, and battered his mother in the process.

Four arrested after high speed chase through Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe crime

2:45 p.m. 2/28/16 update:

Two different high speed chases through the Carson Valley and up Kingsbury Grade resulted in the arrest of two men and two women on Saturday, February 27, 2017.

At 3:10 p.m., a trooper from the Nevada Highway Patrol spotted a silver Mercedes-Benz with California plates going down U.S. 50 (Spooner Summit) at 85 mph. The driver failed to pull over for the trooper, instead turning South on Highway 395 towards Minden, Nev., at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Douglas County deputies looking for Walmart theft suspect

The public's assistance is being sought by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as they try to identify a man who left the Walmart in Gardneville with items he didn't pay for.

Purchase a Lake Tahoe license plate and ski or ride for free

You can now buy either a California or Nevada license plate and help raise money for Lake Tahoe environmental efforts.

The Tahoe Fund is working with the California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada State Lands to promote the sale of their Lake Tahoe license plates. Between now and April 5, 2015, receive two free alpine or nordic tickets to the resort of your choice when you purchase the special plates.

A specialty Nevada license plate supporting safe bicycle and pedestrian programs is now available for purchase through the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.

Douglas County Deputies arrest pair for string of auto burglaries

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office have two Chico, California residents in custody after they were arrested as suspects in a series of vehicle burglaries.

Lisa Vantine and Jacob Donovan were arrested on Thursday, October 16 in the Auto Zone parking lot in Gardnerville as they were pulled over while driving a tan Toyota with stolen license plates out of California.

NHP still searching for driver involved in hit and run

The Nevada Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver of a silver 4-door Cadillac who was involved in a hit and run on August 7 in Sun Valley near Reno.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. the Cadillac rear ended a white Subaru on SR443 (Sun Valley Blvd) southbound just north of Second Street. After the collision the white Subaru pulled to the shoulder and stopped. The driver of the silver Cadillac continued South on SR 443 (Sun Valley Blvd) without stopping.

Sand Harbor Shuttle Service in Place for Summer

There is a park and ride system for Sand Harbor in place once again for the summer of 2014.

In it's third year, the Tahoe Transportation District’s East Shore Express, the shuttle bus provides rides Incline Village to Sand Harbor. They are able to do so with a federal grant and funds gathered from the selling of Lake Tahoe License Plates.

SLT DMV Reschedules Remodeling; Closing For Two Days

The South Lake Tahoe office of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) was scheduled to close last month for renovations, but due to stormy weather they postponed the project. The DMV announced today that they will be closing the office for two days in May to replace the carpet.

They are alerting local customers that their office, located at 3344 Lake Tahoe Blvd #B, will be closing for renovations on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 12 p.m.

Suspect Sought In Elder Abuse of South Lake Tahoe 92 Year Old WWII Veteran

3:56 pm update - The suspect, James Michael Valero, was found walking in the area of Fourth and South Streets and arrested. Officers responded to a citizen's tip and they found Valero.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is seeking an arrest warrant for James Michael Valero on three felony counts and one misdemeanor count following an attack Tuesday night on a 92 year old World War II veteran.

With ski resorts busy preparing for the winter season ahead, now is the time to start planning your time on the slopes! "Plates for Powder" is the successful promotion run by the Tahoe Fund to increase sales of the Lake Tahoe license plates.

Individuals who purchase the specialty Lake Tahoe license plate in either Nevada or California prior to April 1, 2014 will receive two lift tickets to their choice of 11 Lake Tahoe resorts.

The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund announced Thursday the launch of the Lake Tahoe License Plate ‘Plate Spotter’ program to reward owners of Lake Tahoe license plates with free lift tickets during the 2013 Winter season. Tahoe plates spotted by official “spotters” and the general public will be entered to win free lift tickets every week until March 20, 2013. The program is designed to raise awareness of Lake Tahoe license plates, and to reward and encourage renewals and new Tahoe license plate purchases.

Tahoe Fund Presents $12,850 Check for Key Segment of Lake Tahoe Bikeway

The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund presented a $12,850 check today to the Tahoe Transportation District for the Rabe Meadow Bike Path, a key segment of the proposed new bike and pedestrian route around Lake Tahoe called the Lake Tahoe Bikeway. The Bikeway will link communities around the lake, improve air quality, and provide a breathtaking recreational amenity for Tahoe residents and visitors.

Douglas authorities seek help in Carson Valley burglaries

Two commercial burglaries early Monday morning in Douglas County have authorities asking the public for help in identifying the suspects with photos provided by surveillance cameras.
The first burglary occurred at the Verizon Wireless Outlet Store on Waterloo Lane sometime around 5 a.m. Entry was made by the suspect smashing the glass of the exterior window of the store. Hike for Housing Fundraiser

El Dorado County Habitat for Humanity & St. Joseph Community Land Trust will hold its annual Hike for Housing Fundraiser, 9am-3pm Spooner Lake on Sept. 15. The Hike for Housing event raises funds for affordable housing locally. Bring the family and enjoy a leisurely stroll (2 miles) around Spooner Lake or hike all the way to Marlette Lake (moderate hike). Pre-register by 9/10/12 for $15/pp or $25/per family. Wild is the new theme in advertising for Lake Tahoe license plates, as U.S. National Stand Up Paddleboard Team member Jay Wild of Truckee is featured in television and print ads shot last week at Carnelian Bay.

“Over 96 percent of fees help support projects like the Lake Tahoe Water Trail and access to beaches like this,” says Wild, standing on the beach at Watermans Landing. “I train on the lake every day. Tahoe is a treasure, and I have a Tahoe plate to show my love for this magical place.”
