Volunteers needed for Lake Tahoe Science Expo

The 10th Annual Science Expo at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences will be held March 16-20, 2015.

There will be hands-on science investigations and experiments for children ages 6-12. The focus of this year's expo is health, nutrition, the human body, ecosystems, food webs, life cycles, inheritance, adaption and biodiversity.

The Science Expo fosters student curiosity, excitement and interest in science. Our mission is to give students early experiences in science so that they develop problem-solving skills that empower them to participate in an increasingly scientific and technological world.

Volunteers are needed to work in two-hour shifts to help with the school classrooms nd other visitors going through the expo.

Training is provided and no science experience is required. The optional training event will be on March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village. They are also available to train volunteers for the activity station during the hour leading up to the start time of the event each day or over the phone in advance of the event. Many of the stations require very little training and simply need a facilitator. You will receive activity descriptions with detailed background about the science presented. Volunteers will need to be ready to go at their station prior to the start time indicated and plan a few minutes following the end time to clean up.

The Science Expo could really use your help! It is important that our students have early experiences in science so that they develop curiosity and problem-solving skills that empower them to participate in an increasingly scientific and technological world.
