The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Education Research Center (TERC) is expanding their successful Science Expo program to South Lake Tahoe through funding they were awarded last week by Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe.
Through a partnership with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, TERC will host three days of the expo March 30 through April 1 at Lake Tahoe Community College.
During the day the expo will be presented to students in South Lake Tahoe and the community is invited to a public session March 31 from 4:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Do-It-Yourself BMPs for Lake Tahoe residents and contractors
Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/04/2015 - 8:48pmLearn how to design and install Best Management Practices (BMPs) for homes and small businesses in a series of workshops being presented by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in coordination with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and Nevada Tahoe Conservation District.
Due to limited grant funding, this will be the last year the workshops for both the contractor and the do-it-youselfers will be held. The workshops will also be the last time businesses can qualify for the BMP Installation Service Providers List by having at least one supervisor per business attend.

Dr. Dori Borjesson from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will speak about current veterinary clinical trials using stem cells to treat inflammation and spinal cord injury in small and large companion animals.
Borjesson is a veterinarian and Professor at UC Davis, specializing in regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy.

1980 South Tahoe High graduate Dr. Graham Kent from the UNR Seismological Laboratory will give a presentation on ALERT Tahoe in Incline Village on Thursday, January 8.
ALERT Tahoe is a new, one-of-a-kind, fire camera and multi-hazard tracking system that includes smoke investigation, prescribed fire oversight, wildfire tracking, Earthquake Early Warning, and monitoring of extreme weather events. A prototype of the fire camera system is functioning, scoring early successes during the summer of 2014.
Dr. Kent will present on the existing and planned camera system.

State of the Lake 2014 report released; Expect longer summers in Lake Tahoe

Data collected over the last 50 years, combined with the monitoring of Lake Tahoe during the 12 months of 2013, was presented at Thursday's unveiling of the report at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences (TERC) in Incline Village by Director Geoff Schladow.

UC Davis researcher Charles Goldman to discuss Lake Tahoe, climate change
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 05/28/2013 - 3:04pmLake Tahoe, climate change and how global warming affects the lake will be the subject of a discussion by renowned limnologist Dr. Charles Goldman Friday, 6 p.m. June 7 at the Sierra Nevada College campus in Incline Village.
UC Davis research at Lake Tahoe began with Dr. Goldman. In 1959, he formed the Tahoe Research Group and began regularly monitoring Lake Tahoe. Goldman successfully combined effective research and social action with his pioneering studies of lake eutrophication (the dense growth of algae and other organisms).

The Committee will hear a presentation of the "Bear Smart Community" program that has been used to address bear-related conflicts in other communities and the Committee will take input from the public and discuss the potential for establishing a similar program in Nevada.
Seeing Sierra Nevada uplift from space topic of Lake Tahoe science lecture

Scientific evidence from the University of Nevada, Reno shows the entire Sierra Nevada mountain range is rising at the relatively fast rate of 1 to 2 millimeters every year.
A lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 11 will provide this new information on Sierra Nevada uplift as seen from space. The lecture, by Bill Hammond, associate professor at the University of Nevada at Reno, will be at the Lake Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, 291 County Club Drive, in Incline Village.

World class fishing at Lake Tahoe will be featured this month in a two-part series August 16 and again on August 18, hosted by the Tahoe Center for Environmental Science.
The Lake Tahoe Basin has numerous opportunities for fly fishing, but also has a limited season. Join local fishing expert Victor Babbitt to learn about how, where and when to fish in and around Lake Tahoe at a presentation on August 16 at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences building in Incline Village, 291 Country Club Drive.
