Sacramento area carjacking suspect causes Hwy 50 closure near Silver Fork

Highway 50 near Silver Fork was closed Tuesday morning as law enforcement apprehended a carjacking suspect who also sideswiped a vehicle along Highway 50.

According to CHP in Placerville, a man driving eastbound on Highway 50 east of Ice House Road noticed a car on the right shoulder of the road with a flat tire. As he passed the person in the stopped car they threw an unidentified object at his vehicle. ,

He then turned his vehicle around to go back to the stopped vehicle with the flat tire. That driver had started driving eastbound on a flat tire and came toward him in the westbound lane, narrowly missing his vehicle.

This witness turns around again and follows the subject vehicle, contacts CHP dispatch via 911. The vehicle continued eastbound to Silver Fork where it sideswipes another vehicle in the parking lot of the Silver Fork 76 Gas Station and continues traveling east.

The driver of the suspect vehicle is then boxed in by the witness and victim of the sideswipe incident. CHP units arrived and find the driver of the suspect vehicle, a woman, locked herself inside the car.

She was eventually taken into custody, transported, and evaluated by a drug recognition expert and the road reopened. The original carjacking victim positively identified her as the suspect.

The unidentified suspect was transported to Marshall Medical Center and is currently waiting for a medical evaluation.
