Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High

Yet another snowfall struck South Tahoe High School, as Spring Break is just around the corner. Students prepared for a busy, stressful week with midterms and college prep testing. Juniors visit Lake Tahoe Community College for a career expo, seniors fight through senior projects, and STHS continues to impress in sports.

Juniors at STHS today participates in LTCC’s Career Expo, as part of the CCC 10-year program that’s taught by Julie Cain, a teacher at STHS.

“The CCC program stands for College and Career Choices, where everybody has a 10-year plan,” said Cain. “We’re focusing mainly on Who am I? What do I want? and Wow do I get there?”

The event is designed as a hands-on experience, focusing on careers and industry. This is the second trip to a career summit for the juniors, following last year’s College Fair at LTCC.

Cain hopes students explore what’s out there, beyond Tahoe. Gaining more insight into careers will help them find careers they might be interested in.

Senior projects are being finalized at STHS. When asked how work was progressing, Sydney McCarthy said:

“It’s honestly a lot of fun just doing something you choose and want to learn about with the help of a mentor. I’m considering doing more and more with my senior project.”

McCarthy’s project is titled “Cell Phone Addiction Affecting Our Chiropractic Posture.”
