South Lake Tahoe Seniors Celebrate Grand Reopening of Their Center

The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center celebrated the grand reopening of their full facilities on April 7 with a community party. City staff painted, reordered and reorganized the center so the seniors could once again enjoy their dance floor, library game room and offices.

The Senior Center building, located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, had been shared with El Dorado County Mental Health for over two years. Sharing the space was impacting the seniors’ ability to fully utilize the facilities; therefore, an agreement was reached for EDC Mental Health to relocate Mental Health Services. They are temporarily being housed in a trailer as their new offices on Tata Lane are completed.

“Since the merge between mental health services and senior services membership to the Senior Citizens Organization has dramatically declined,” said Lauren Thomaselli, City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation Manager. “The lack of space resulted in elimination of programs and uncomfortable conditions throughout the facility as many services were consolidated into one room of the 10,000 square foot facility. Restoring the rooms to their original purpose will allow seniors to reinstate social activities and improve the quality of life for all members.”

“We’re happy to know you will be once again be able to use the center to its fullest and enjoy it,” said Brooke Laine, City of South Lake Tahoe Mayor Pro Tem. “Welcome home.”
