SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With a change in the normal Halloween celebrations due to coronavirus, volunteers with the Lake Tahoe Historical Society have created a map to local homes decorated for the season. This is a great way to enjoy the holiday in a socially distanced manner.

LTHS has added the map to their website and will have printed copies at the museum starting October 20.

There are no specific address listed, just a pumpkin placed in the area of a home found to have a display for all to enjoy by walking, biking or driving by.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another 11 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, seven are in El Dorado Hills, two in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in North County and none for the Lake Tahoe Region for second
consecutive day.

Of these new cases, three are under the age of 18 and eight are in the 18-49 age group.

Another 220 people were tested for the coronavirus and 209 negative tests results were received.

Of those, one is in El Dorado Hills, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in North County. Of these new cases, all are in the 18-49 age group. .

Another 244 people were tested for the coronavirus and 241 negative tests results were received.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe area man has become the third person to die from COVID-19 in the county. El Dorado County officials say the deceased was in the 50-64 age group and had been hospitalized in another county.

Officials say another 14 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday. Of those, seven are in South Lake Tahoe, five in El Dorado Hills, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz.

Another 467 people were tested for the coronavirus and 453 negative tests results were received.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials report another seven positive cases of COVID-19 today. Evacuations are underway after a three fires broke out north of Hallelujah Junction near US395 Sunday afternoon. The highway is currently closed in both directions from the junction with SR70 to Contantia Road.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Tahoe Conservancy has awarded a $425,000 grant to the City of South Lake Tahoe to help plan the future of the 56-Acre site, a south shore hub of civic and recreation activity across Highway 50 from Lakeview Commons.

“The 56-Acre site is already a vibrant gathering place for community members and visitors alike, and it has the potential to be so much more,” said South Lake Tahoe City Councilmember and Conservancy Board member Tamara Wallace.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The threat of the novel coronavirus and COVID-19 is a scary one for all people, especially the more vulnerable citizens of the community including senior citizens.

The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center is closed but nutrition services are being provided on a "to go" basis. Those 60 and older can stop by Monday through Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. and get a hot meal to go for a $3 suggested donation. Their Meals on Wheels program serves about 80 seniors with hot meals delivered Monday through Friday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The threat of the coronavirus COVID-19 has prompted more events and activities to be postponed or canceled in the South Lake Tahoe area. At this time there are no confirmed cases in El Dorado, Douglas, or Carson City counties.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Soroptimist International Club of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) invites the community to their weekly meeting on Thursday, February 27 when they feature Barton Health's Neurology Specialist, Rituparna Das, MD. The doctor will share insights on brain function and brain health.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Vail Resorts EpicPromise has selected 76 local nonprofits in the Lake Tahoe area to receive one of their 2019-20 community grants, totaling $2.8 million in grant support.

Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood recently held a breakfast to honor the recipients. The followed with a similar celebration at Northstar, the third area Vail resort.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The long-discussed 56-acre parcel in the middle of South Lake Tahoe is finally seeing movement again, and both the South Lake Tahoe City Council and El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (BOS) supporting further conversation. A formal agreement between the two is expected later in 2020 with another one-two years of public meetings, consultant review, and planning before plans are implemented. The California Tahoe Conservancy is funding the cost of the consultant, just as they did 30 years ago.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The social, nutritional, recreational and educational hub for South Lake Tahoe's senior citizens has been getting a much-needed facelift in their "great room", one which includes new flooring, heat and air, along with new technology and large screen televisions.

A Grand Opening Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 28 and the whole community is invited, both young and old. The Open House will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. A full slate of activities is planned:

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Area Agency on Aging (AAA), in partnership with the Commission on Aging, is conducting a needs assessment survey of older adults in the community. El Dorado County residents aged 60 and older are encouraged to complete the survey, but interested residents of any age may provide their feedback. Welcome back to The Viking Corner. The South Tahoe High School 2019-2020 school year has officially begun. As freshmen enter a new chapter in their lives, fall sports begin, and seniors try to make their last year memorable.

Freshmen First Year

Incoming freshmen came to campus on Monday to organize their schedules, tour the campus, and see what’s in store for them for the next four years. Upperclassmen led the freshmen, making sure they were comfortable and answered their questions.

Did you sing in school? Do you sing in the shower? Are you interested in being part of a chorus? Then join the Tahoe Community Choir as they begin their 49th year in South Lake Tahoe. They start its fall season under new leadership on Tuesday, September 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

Rehearsals will be every Tuesday evening until their holiday performances the first weekend in December.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Neighborhoods Group is hosting a fire preparedness meeting on Tuesday, June 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center.

Are you prepared in the case of a fire? Do you know how to evacuate? Do you have your emergency plans in place?

If not, this meeting will help the community plan and prepare together. Neighbors are working together to take action to prevent loss of life and property in the case of a wildland fire.

Father John Grace, former pastor of Saint Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe, passed away on May 4, 2019, at the age of 98. Father Grace had injured himself in a fall while on a walk near his Al Tahoe residence a few days before his death.

He was born September 18, 1920, to John and Cecilia Grace in the small coal-mining village of The Commons, County Tipperary, Ireland. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Catherine (“Rena”) and Maureen. At the time of his death, Father Grace was the oldest priest in the Diocese of Sacramento.
