Douglas County Sheriff's Explorers take top honors at competition

The Douglas County Sheriff's Explorers cam home from the Central Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Competition with 15 trophies, including the top award, 1st place overall, out-preforming the Hanford Police Department who have been the long standing first place holders.

There were 19 events at the competition which was held in Tulare, California April 6-7, 2018. The Douglas County team was up against 12 posts from the Central Valley area.

The Douglas County team received three first place awards: Building Search, Team Obstacle and Individual Obstacle. Explorer Fallon Montanucci was awarded a laptop computer as her scholarship prize for the oral interview portion.

Exploring is a program sponsored by the Sheriff’s Youth Services Division of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, chartered by Learning for Life, a subsidiary of the Boys Scouts of America. Exploring provides vocational training and experience to young people, ages 14-20. You must have a desire to learn about law enforcement or the military. Exploring provides an opportunity for young people to be involved in something positive, to receive training and experience in law enforcement and to learn the value of service to their community. It also allows those involved to get an inside look on how a sheriff’s department functions.
This program is funded by generous donations from the public and events worked by the Sheriff’s Explorers to raise money for their post.
