Entries are open now for the second annual Lake Tahoe WordWave One-Act Play Competition. “WordWave, A Festival of Story at Lake Tahoe,” will return Oct. 21-23 to the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Winners of the play competition receive a $500 cash prize and the chance to see their work directed and produced as a staged reading on the historic Boathouse Theatre stage.
The deadline for entry is June 3, 2016 and plays can be submitted online at www.tahoewordwave.com. Manuscripts can have a running time of no more than 60 minutes, and writers can enter multiple works. There is a $20 submission fee for each play.
"WordWave was a unique experience. I came from Tennessee and I felt welcome by everyone running and attending the event,” said Michelle Benson, 2015 contest winner for her comedic play, “Compromising Postions.” “There were so many facets of writing recognized that not only did I have a great time watching the One Act plays, but I found many workshops to attend during my time there."
WordWave is a three-day writing event that includes workshops, readings, panel discussions, agents, and a steampunk ball. Most of the events are free and all events are open to the general public.
Winners of the playwright contest receive two nights of lodging and the opportunity for a pre- or post-show discussion with the audience. Three winners will be selected.
"What an incredible experience it was to see the talented actors and director bring my words to life onstage,” said Dallas Woodburn, 2015 winner for “Woman Running Late in a Dress.” “The night of the production was one of the best nights of my life. I was so proud of the actors and grateful for the way they treated my work with such respect and enthusiasm. They brought their own artistic vision to my script and, by bringing the characters and their relationships to life, made it even better than simply my words on the page."
