Community invited to LTCC’s annual student art exhibit

Event Date:
May 22, 2016 - 2:00pm

The community is invited to Lake Tahoe Community College’s Annual Student Art Exhibition opening reception on Sunday, May 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Commons, located in the Main Building on campus. An awards ceremony honoring the winners starts at 3:30 p.m. There will be approximately 400 works of student art on display, ranging from digital art to printmaking and sculpture. All of the artwork displayed represents student production over the past year. Much of the work reflects the Art Department’s curriculum, but also includes work created independently by LTCC students.

The work submitted for this exhibition will be juried for special honors in 17 different categories. A first, second, and third prize, as well as honorable mentions, will be awarded in each category. Best of Show recognition will also be awarded for the most outstanding work of art, according to the juror’s opinion. Selecting this year’s special honors will be guest juror Ahren Hertel.

Various cash awards and gift certificates will be handed out for outstanding achievement. These awards are donated by local businesses that support LTCC students’ artistic endeavors. One of the awards that long-time participants look forward to is the People’s Choice Award. There will be a ballot process provided for the audience to decide what works of art deserve special recognition.

Free refreshments and live music will accompany the opening reception for this event. The Art Department welcomes the community to come celebrate this event and make a visit to campus to view this art exhibition, which will continue through Friday, June 16.

LTCC is located off Al Tahoe Boulevard at One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, CA. This exhibition is free and open to the public during regular college business hours. For more information, please call (530) 541-4660 ext. 335.
