SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The annual Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Student Art Exhibition will be kicked off with a reception on Sunday, May 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the school's Commons. The public is invited to the free reception and there will be live music and refreshments.

This month-long art show is always a hit. Approximately 400 works of student art will be on display from digital art and printmaking to sculpture, a culmination of students' creations over the past year.

Much of the work reflects LTCC Art Department curriculum, but the exhibit also includes works created independently by many talented LTCC students of all ages.

During the reception there will be an awards ceremony honoring the winners starts at 3:30 p.m.

The work submitted for this exhibition will be juried for special honors in 17 different categories. First, second, and third prizes as well as honorable mentions will be awarded in each category. A “Best of Show” recognition will also be awarded for the one work of art found to be the most outstanding according to the juror. This year’s guest juror is professional photographer Frances Melhop.

Various cash awards will also be given for outstanding achievement. These awards are donated by local businesses that support LTCC students’ artistic endeavors. Anyone who attends the opening reception is also welcome to cast their ballot for the “People’s Choice Award,” in honor of a single artwork that deserves special recognition.

LTCC is located off Al Tahoe Boulevard at One College Drive in South Lake Tahoe. This exhibition in in the main building, is free and open to the public during regular college business hours through Saturday, June 15.
