Summit held to build successful businesses and employees

Over 100 people attended the Make Tahoe Work For You Leadership Lake Tahoe Summit on May 6 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. The one-day Summit, featuring inspiring sessions for individuals and business owners, provided Lake Tahoe residents with tools to make Tahoe a viable place to succeed, both personally and professionally. The Summit was organized by the Tahoe Chamber’s Leadership Lake Tahoe 2016 class.

Keynote speakers Donna Hartley, international speaker and author of “Fire Up Your Life” and other books, and Tracy DeLuca, design strategist and host of the podcast Results May Vary, spoke to attendees about the importance of motivation and actively structuring their lives to facilitate success. Matt Westfield, serial entrepreneur and founder of Entrepreneurs Assembly, spoke during the lunch session about the positive energy and incredible opportunities arising in the Reno-Tahoe area.

“Our goal was to help attendees understand the tremendous opportunities available in our community, as well as guide them through challenges,” said Amber Aneloski, 2016 class member and Summit Co-Chair. “From the feedback I’ve received so far, we were successful in doing that.”

The day also included eight interactive workshops and panel discussions focused on personal growth and business development. For attendee Mandi Weavil, a Barton physician, the Summit highlighted issues she hadn’t thought of before.

“What I liked best was that the focus was on solutions, not problems,” said Weavil.

Summit attendees were encouraged to share tangible goals for themselves and the community on the Commitment Wall. Some achievable commitments included shopping locally, volunteering time to local organizations, creating opportunities for businesses to connect with one another and being a part of a collective vision of the best Tahoe.

“The event was such a success, I think, because of the growing momentum on the South Shore. People want to make South Lake home and a home they can be proud of,” said David Rios, 2016 class member and Summit Co-Chair.
