It only takes a one degree change in temperature to convert water to steam, water to ice or water to snow. This is such a tiny change and yet most of us ignore making these types of minor changes in our lives, or the life of our community, as we think that the effect won’t be significant enough. That is because we live in an instant gratification society and want results now, when in fact a number of small changes done day in day out will make a massive difference to our lives and the communities of Lake Tahoe.

The public is invited to attend the spring meeting of Progress for Tahoe on Tuesday, June 5, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Mountain Lab, 3079 Harrison Ave, South Lake Tahoe.

There will be a presentation about the Tahoe Prosperity Center's Workforce Housing Project, a discussion on a new idea to start a rental matching program between second home owners and local workforce, and hear about microtransit for South Lake Tahoe/Stateline.

Attendees are also welcome to share their ideas.

What does a community "rich in art" look like? The Tahoe Arts Alliance is partnering with Nevada Arts Council to hold a Public Arts Town Meeting and to share and get public input on Tuesday, March 13 at the Tahoe Mountain Lab from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Residents, businesses and non-profits are being brought together to assess the current "state of the arts" on the South Shore.

El Dorado County is holding a day of public meetings to gather input for broadband planning and improvement on Thursday, January 18 at the Tahoe Mountain Lab in South Lake Tahoe.

The County is working with consulting firm NEO Connect to conduct a Broadband Feasibility Study to evaluate current broadband resources and identify options for improving connectivity and expanding broadband across the County.

Now in its 27th year, TRPA’s Best in Basin awards program each year showcases projects around the lake that demonstrate exceptional planning, implementation, and compatibility with Tahoe’s natural environment and communities.

The future of the Blue Granite Climbing Gym in South Lake Tahoe was made much clearer Thursday during the South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission meeting.

A new federal law goes into effect on December 1 that entitles salaried employees to get overtime pay if they make less than $47,476 per year. To help people understand this change they are holding a lunchtime workshop on Wednesday, November 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Tahoe Mountain Lab.

According to the White House, an estimated 4.2 million white collar workers will become entitled to overtime pay when they work extra hours as a result of the new rule, and wages for workers will increase by $12 billion over the next 10 years.

As the South Shore moves from an economy focused on casinos and gambling to one focused on recreation, new ideas are emerging on how to succeed and live in the area.

A panel of successful entrepreneurs will be on hand during the next Tahoe Talks, a monthly feature offered by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and their transportation arm, Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization (TMPO).

Throughout the summer season, Tahoe Heritage Foundation raises funds by selling interpretive and educational items at Taylor Creek Visitor Center and Tallac Historic Site's Baldwin Museum Store.

This Saturday they'll be selling off some samples and end of season merchandise.

For two weeks every year, Lake Tahoe area commuters, students and recreational riders get on their bikes instead of in the cars to get to where they need to go. This year's event started on June 1 and goes until June 14 so there are just a few days to make your bike rides count.

In addition to all the other reasons to participate (including that it is fun & free), the data collected goes to help show the need for bicycle paths and other infrastructure when we apply for grants and other funding.

Over 100 people attended the Make Tahoe Work For You Leadership Lake Tahoe Summit on May 6 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County (BBBS) has served at-risk children since 1977, primarily on the Western Slope. On October 15, 2015, BBBS will be hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to announce the expansion of their programs into South Lake Tahoe.

The ceremony will take place from 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Tahoe Mountain Lab located at 1048 Ski Run Blvd. The owners of Tahoe Mountain Lab, David and Jamie Orr, have generously donated the space to BBBS for meeting purposes. David was previously a “Little” and considers this an opportunity to “give back” to his community.
