Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High

This week at South Tahoe High School, the cold weather continued while students dressed up for “Versus Week,” seniors visited Lake Tahoe Community College day, and athletes brought home gold from the state championships.

On Campus
The spirit week theme was “Versus.” Students dressed up as nerds versus athletes, tourists vs. locals, rappers vs. country musicians, and more. A spirit rally is being held Friday to support the school’s canned food drive.

Prom is on June 1 at the Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort. Tickets are on sale, and prom dates are getting booked. Whether it’s taking your partner to a dock at the marina with candlelight and a handwritten prom poster, or embarrassing them in front of everybody at the school parking lot, prom season is here.

Seniors toured LTCC this week and enjoyed fun activities to celebrate their graduation.

“The support that was given to us was something I would never trade away,” said senior Reina Joise Narvarte. “They made us feel comfortable, and welcomed us with open arms.”

In Athletics
The swim team ended its season at the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association state championships with girls taking third place and boys finishing sixth. Coach Davenport was named NIAA 3A swim coach of the year.

The track team competed at the NIAA state championships with Carissa Buchholz winning gold in 800 meter, 1600 meter and 3200 meter. Zoe Brosch took fifth place with a personal record in shot put.

Buchholz enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas for the state championships and watching the team bond as the season progressed.

“I’m looking forward to having a strong finish to my senior year with hopefully some new personal records and a school record,” she said.
