City staff and locals help kick off the Tahoe Bike Challenge

Local cyclists got into the biking mode Monday in South Lake Tahoe at the start of the two week long bike challenge.

Pearl Izumi at the Y hosted the "Ready, Set, Pedal" party with swag bags, food and special discounts. Riders gathered at the store and started on either a 5 mile or a 10 mile loop.

The fun five-mile kickoff party route went through the Tahoe Keys and over to the bike trail on Eloise Avenue and back, while the 10 mile kickoff party route went along Lake Tahoe Boulevard, up Ski Run Boulevard, down Pioneer Trail, then Al Tahoe Boulevard back to Lake Tahoe Blvd. Both rides ended up back at the Pearl Izumi store.

The very young, and not so very young all joined in the biking fun.

Police Chief Brian Uhler, City Manager Nancy Kerry, Planning Manager John Hitchcock, Building Official Dave Walker, Public Information Officer Tracy Franklin, Amy Poole, Enforcement Officer, Lisa Watson of SLTPD and Management Analyst Tina Shannon all represented the City in the ride.
