Two men arrested after South Lake Tahoe high-speed chase

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two men were arrested after they led officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on a high-speed chase through the Tahoe Sierra neighborhood on Monday, June 15, 2020.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., SLTPD attempted to pull over a Chevy at the intersection of Black Bart Avenue and Pioneer Trail. Inside the vehicle were two suspects that had allegedly been seen with a weapon. According to police, the occupants were prohibited from being in possession of a gun.

The driver of the Chevy failed to pull over and instead led officers on a chase down Black Bart to Martin Avenue, through streets in the Tahoe Sierra neighborhood before stopping in front of a home on Reno Avenue. When stopped, the suspects fled on foot.

Officers caught up with them and ended up arresting both suspects.

Arrested were Darnell Anthony Barfield, 30, and Darrion Jamal Coffer, 29, both from South Lake Tahoe.

Barfield was booked on charges of obstruction, violation of probation, and a felony bail enhancement. His bail has been set at $65,000.

Coffer was booked on charges of obstruction, felony evading a peace officer with disregard for public safety, and a felony bail enhancement. His bail has been set at $175,000.

Both men are currently in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe.

SLTPD Detective Sgt. Travis Cabral said this case is an ongoing investigation and no other details are available at this time.
