An emergency alert at Lake Tahoe Community College Tuesday morning turned out to be a false alarm.
At approximately 9:25 a.m. August 1, the alert was broadcast to evacuate the South Lake Tahoe campus immediately. A second alert advising the emergency was over quickly followed.
One of the campus's maintenance crew members was working on an air handler unit when some dust in the system system was kicked up and set off a duct smoke detector. Detectors can confuse dust with smoke.
