Two people were taken by Care Flight Sunday afternoon after a motorcycle crash on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
The accident happened at around 3:30 p.m. in the westbound lane and involved a motorcycle and a van, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. According to the accident investigation, a 1981 yellow Volkswagen van driven by Peter Kwan, 75, of San Francisco, made an improper U-turn on the shoulder of the westbound lane. He pulled out in the path of a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Joshua W. Hanlon, 20, of Henderson, Nev. Hanlon was hit by the van and was reportedly trapped under it, Allen said.
Hanlon sustained serious injuries and both men were airlifted to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Kwan was cited at the hospital for making the improper U-Turn, said Allen.
Traffic in both directions was re-routed and reduced to one lane, causing stalled traffic along Highway 50 for a couple of hours.
