One dead, others injured in motorcycle crashes on area highways

There was a fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. 50 about a mile east of Spooner Summit just before noon Saturday, September 30.

The east bound lane was closed for about three hours as emergency personnel responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Their cars surrounded the victim, keeping passerby from seeing the scene.

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) said it was a single vehicle crash and speed is believed to be a factor.

The accident happened about 11:54 a.m. No other details were available.

There were at least two other crashes involving motorcycles around the area on Saturday.

The right lanes of Interstate 580 between the Eastlake Boulevard on ramp and the North Carson Street exit were closed after a crash that involved several motorcycles. All is reopened now and the extent of injuries are unknown.

Over on Geiger Grande, two people from California were injured after a turning car crashed into a motorcycle.

The driver of a Toyota Prius was heading east on Geiger Grade when she turned left onto High Chaparral Drive at about 3:13 p.m. She turned in front of the motorcycle with a male driver and female passenger.

The woman had minor injuries but the man had severe scrapes and bruises. The NHP called his injuries significant and he was transported to the hospital by Care Flight.

The annual Street Vibrations based in Reno, Nevada is being held this weekend, with several activities in Carson City and Lake Tahoe. There have been several crashes around Lake Tahoe and Reno involving motorcycles since Thursday.
