Reno man arrested on multiple charges after found slumped over the wheel

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A man found slumped over in the driver's seat of a F-150 pickup truck was arrested on August 20, 2018 on multiple charges including drugs, DUI, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of burglary tools.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Julie Heitzman was and on patrol came across the truck parked on the shoulder of US-50 near Pioneer Trail. She did a welfare check on the driver, 36-year-old Shaun Sherman Perry of Reno. Officer Heitzman found the engine running while the truck was in park with an open driver’s door. The officer was able to get Perry to exit the Ford and a DUI investigation was conducted.

Perry was then arrested for driving under the influence. During the vehicle inventory of the Ford before towing, a semi-automatic handgun, a high capacity magazine, drugs including prescription drugs not his and items to facilitate the sales of drugs, and burglary tools were found. A Halloween mask was also found in his possession.

Perry was booked into the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe at 6:11 p.m. and his bail was set in the amount of $125,000. The charges are DUI, DUI .08% or higher, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a high capacity magazine, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of methamphetamine for sale, possession of burglary tools and possession of prescription medication.

He is no longer a resident of the El Dorado County Jail and no hearing appears on the court calendar.
