Three still hospitalized in Reno after South Lake Tahoe vehicle collision

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Three victims from Saturday's head-on collision on Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe are still hospitalized at Renown Medical Center.

According to Officer Jeff Gartner of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), he called Renown Monday morning and was told that all three were still hospitalized with their injuries.

At Renown Medical Center are a 19-year-old female from San Bruno, California who has a fractured mandable (chin bone); a 21-year-old female from San Jose Calif., with a brain bleed and fractured spine; and a 21-year-old male, also from San Bruno, with a fractured spine and lower abdominal injury.

Stateline, Nevada resident Hui Paxson, 29, was driving a 2008 Range Rover eastbound when, for reasons unknown at this time, she traveled into the westbound lane near Southern Pines Drive, striking a 2011 BMW with five occupants.

Paxson was transferred via ambulance to Barton Hospital as a precautionary measure. Upon release she was booked into the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe on charges of a Felony DUI with a $125,000 bail. As of Monday. she was no longer housed in the jail and it is unknown if she posted the full amount.

The 24-year-old BMW driver, a resident of San Jose, Calif., was also transported to Barton as a precaution. Another passenger, a 31-year-old male, also from San Jose was transported with a concussion. Barton could not confirm if they were still hospitalized.

All six involved were wearing seat belts.

The CHP is continuing their investigation into the collision and no other details are available. No names have been released.
