Grinding and paving project in South Lake Tahoe to cause delays

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Caltrans grinding and paving project got underway Monday in South Lake Tahoe, causing traffic delays with travel reduced to one lane in each direction at the "Y" intersection.

Work got underway at 5:00 a.m. Monday at US50 and SR89. The roadway will be ground down and replaced with new asphalt.

For the duration of the paving work, the contractor is permitted to have around the clock lane reductions, weather permitting. The intersection operation is expected to be completed within a week.

There will be additional grinding and paving work throughout the two-mile project between the "Y" and Trout Creek Bridge. This work will last throughout September and the highway will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this work.

The work is part of the $56 million Highway 50 Y to Trout Creek project that is building new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and drainage systems to treat stormwater runoff.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
